So we need to hire dads that bring in kids? Is that what's it comes down to? He deserves that? He doesn't deserve jack ****. His kids are getting a free education.

You are welcome to twist words if you'd like but the fact of the matter is that Keelon is the best assistant that Tubby has ever had when it comes to recruiting. Whats the main job of an assistant coach? yep, you guessed it. RECRUITING

Yup

Once word about Vandy's interest got out other schools started calling

With offers

Keelon never had to ask for anything

Then guess what? Memphis MADE an offer

He should have held out for more, it was there

but people around here wanted to blame the lawsons, who clearly wanted to be here

Did we ask them to transfer? They had the option to stay here and play next year. Even offered their dad a $120k bribe.
So it obviously wasn't the dad "pimping" his sons out.

Really? Did, or did he not say, everyone would have stayed if he got what HE wanted?

You know what's worse than a dad pimping his kids? A proud pimp.... buh bye

If he got what he wanted or got the position that the university promoted him to and gave them his word to?

He was saying that his sons would still be at the university if he was still an assistant coach. Whats so hard to understand about that statement?

I understand it completely. This loser was using his kids as leverage to further himself. If he is so talented, where were his job offers that didn't include bribing his kids with him?

What's worse is that he publicly extorted us. Twice. Do we have to hire him as a head coach to get the next two kids? Double the salary? Name the forum after him?

Yep. I hate the argument that Keelon hasn't recruited anyone without the name Lawson. SO WHAT!!! He has four kids who are or are projected to be high level D1 talent, with a few Mickey D's AA's among them. The fact that he's their father doesn't diminish the fact that he can (or would have) steered them to Memphis.

In the end, he brought two more high level players to Memphis than Saul has.

Keelon had developed some quality relationships in the class of 18

With word of Chandler moving up in class

Josh may not have been a great X/O coach, but he wasn't dumb.

There was a reason he was going to elevate Keelon on the assistant ladder.

Tubby is hard-headed.

RE: Keelon on parrish
The interesting thing that many on here are not acknowledging (but seemed fairly obvious as the season came to a close) was that , no matter how well the Lawsons played, the team chemistry was shot. Things they did at the beginning of the year they simply did not do at the end. Whether they hit a "wall" due to lack of depth as Tubby noted, or if they broke down as a team and no longer were able to get it together, the Lawson reality seemed to ruin the team chemistry and therefore the season.

In the past, Memphis would have gotten the Lawsons without having to hire their dad. It appears now that this is not the case anymore. Keelon went on the GP show and noted point blank that if he were an assistant coach, his sons would not have transferred (which contradicts what he said on Jason and John earlier). So, in reality, this is not about the development of his boys' skills, but about his job prospects.

This also indicates that there was no possible way that Tubby was gonna be able to make this work. Keelon Lawson had too much leverage for Tubby to effectively shape the program the way he wanted. Chemistry on the team was shot. The challenge is that Tubby can't (or as some say won't) recruit the caliber of player that can seriously elevate a team to title contender. Just not in his personality to deal with issues like the Lawsons presented throughout the year.

How about earning that dream job? How about not leveraging your kids? Others have got that dream job on their own merits.

You can say what you want about Saul. I don't think it was a good hire. But we are talking about Keelon, a guy that admitted his kids would be a Memphis if they met his demands. I just find that f'd up..

Ever stop and think that maybe Dedric and KJ love and support their father and didn't like how he was treated by the administration at Memphis? Had he been treated right, maybe they would have wanted to stay.

That's your problem, baby. You hate the game.

These are all adults in a multi-billion dollar business.

That's just the way the game is played.

Danny Manning's dad and Mario Chalmers' dad and DaJuan Wagner's dad and the Porter kid going to Mizzou because Cuonzo hired his dad, and more.

And if you aren't hiring a parent, you're getting them a better job, some swag, helping out with the bills, etc.
