I went by the tweet. The president of the team he plays for tweets out that James is a proud Bearcat. I look up the team name and the first name James. It leads me to that article about an Aussie named James Smith from that team coming to play our football.

Plus I found his twitter, and our coaches follow him.

Bold move to displace a 3-year incumbent starter. I trust that CLF believes the rugby kid will be an improvement at the position.

I'm hoping it works out better than the Aussie He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named brought in, though to be fair he got injured in practice and never saw the field on game day. Lindsay Crook, I believe it was.

Big difference is the brought Crook in to be a RB, then moved him to TE and then to LB iIRC. The transition to be a punter is not as great, especially since we are doing Rugby style punting nowadays anyway.

Plus Crook had a complete ACL year in his first spring...

#UC punter and #Moeller grad Geraci leaving. Hearing #Bearcats may bring in another punter.

I hope they didn't take his scholarship away. It's one thing to bring a better player in and tell a guy he doesn't figure to play, something else to pull his scholly. I don't want to root for that kind of program.
I agree. Smells a little fishy tbh, but we'll see what facts come out.

I see this as almost a no-risk move. As mediocre as Geraci was, even if this new guy doesn't work out, I'm confident it'll be quite easy to find another punter as good as Geraci. Heck there's probably 2-3 guys from local Cincinnati high schools that graduated this year that averaged 40+.

Spoken from experience, there are anywhere between 20-50 people in Ohio at the moment who could be serviceable Division 1 specialists (counting kickers, punters, and long snappers). It won't be hard, if it doesn't pan out, to find someone who can get 38-42 on a punt...the big issue is, for quite a long time with Huber and O'Donnell, we were used to 46-50.
