Way-To-Early Mid-Major 2017-2018 Power Rankings
NMSU is the only WAC school in the Top 25 of Mid-Major Madness' power rankings. They come in at 18. I easily see a few teams that don't really belong in the Top 25, but hey, nobody is perfect.

How does UC Bakersfield win 3 road games in the NIT to become the first 8th seed in the History of basketball's oldest tournament and not earn a top 25 spot for 17-18

Congrats on the recognition, Aggies. The notion of NMSU as underdogs might be a harder sell this season.

Honestly don't know, but it's like I said there were a few undeserving teams that some how made it in.

Well, NMSU finished 10th in the Mid-Major rankings this season (after a 28-6 season). NMSU made another NCAA tournament trip. And, that is with the WAC (as a whole) jumping up 10 spots in the conference rankings. They only lose Baker and return essentially every other major contributor. They have a highly touted transfer point guard waiting in the wings (AJ Harris). NMSU has the #4 mid-major recruiting class. Being picked 18th is a snub in Weir and his player's eyes. There is a lack of respect with this ranking and we still have something to prove (like underdogs).

Uncertainty. A few key players graduating.
BTW for future reference, Bakersfield is part of the Cal State system.
Currently mobile....but not necessarily upwardly.

Cal State Bakersfield lost a lot with Dedrick Basile, Jaylin Airington, Matt Smith, and Justin Pride graduating. So, I can understand the skepticism by not being ranked in this pre-season mid-major poll. I for one think Cal State Bakersfield is still going to be very strong. Brent Wrapp is a very smart point guard and Damiyne Durham is a very prolific scorer when he is in the zone. Also, Shon Briggs blossomed in the post season. So, Barnes still has a good nucleus to work with next season. If Rickey Holden can give Barnes another capable point guard and Moataz Aly steps up his offensive game, I could very easily see the Roadrunners in next season's final mid-major polls.
However, it will be tougher to win the WAC for all those involve. GCU is now eligible and has a very seasoned unit. Utah Valley looks like it made a big leap in strength to finish last season. They should be much tougher in 2017-18. And, NMSU hasn't rested on their laurals either; adding even more talent.
