Then I found out how nice it is in Fort Worth. I haven't been in a traffic jam since the last time I visited Dallas. Back to square one....

Disagree with you on this point. A lot of kids like the big city and Houston, rather than a place like College Station or even Fort Worth and it's whole cowboy vibe. Rice students typically getting stuck on freeway traffic - their lives are either on campus or very close within the loop.

I actually think being in Houston is a net positive in recruiting, even beyond the point that it's a fertile recruiting ground.

I got to go with Pants on this one, and I am a neighbor of sorts with WeatherfordOwl, living in the area. I doubt prospects have ease of driving at the top of their list.

Also agree. The issue isn't traffic or Houston. In fact Houston is a great city to live. Academic course load isn't an issue. I can't see losing players because they want an easy course load. That would mean kids would run from UVA, Vandy, Stanford etc. Most of the kids take Sports Management anyway. You can't pass that then you have some serious academic challenges. This issue is obvious and is the elephant in the room.
