RE: Will Alabama impeach its governor?
The Bentley plea deal was negotiated by Cooper Shattuck, former counsel to the UASBOT who founded the dark-money PAC that paid the salaries of Ms. Mason and her husband (ACEGOV - Alabama Citizens for Ethics in Government. Yes that is its real name).

While Bentley did not take a salary as governor, apparently it was only deferred and he can collect it as back pay.

Another win for Team Casino. I'm thinking we won't be seeing a lottery, or "electronic bingo" (trans: slot machines) at dog tracks, anytime soon.

Surely a coincidence that Bentley had been talking up a lottery bill.

Bentley probably could have run out the clock if he hadn't flaunted his girlfriend at the State of the State address (and she'd shut up about how she wrote it), and pissed off too many legislators.

And if he hadn't given Mrs Bentley his old iPad that got all his texts because he left his account on it.

Big dummy

If dems were smart they would have made the scandal last longer...watch ivey win the next election

Ds were content to let the Rs do the heavy lifting. Hubbard tried to blame the Ds and failed pretty awesomely.

Kay Ivey will get primaried by some Machine selection. As treasurer she managed to fall into a deep enough stupor to crater the state's Prepaid College Tuition fund (which should be mathematically impossible).

Geriatric sex addicts, alcoholics, religious nuts. We have them all.

al.com has selections of texts, emails and such between Bentley and his girlfriend (as well as the full 3,000-page report). The ones where she says God ordained their relationship are priceless.

Yep...Gov Ivey is an Auburn grad....She will face a primary. Probably one from Roy Moore and one from a Machine Candidate....

She's pretty incompetent too.

I think Ambrosia Starling might be the best candidate. I'm almost not kidding. Actually, I'm not. http://www.towleroad.com/2016/05/drag-qu...nor-watch/

A corrupt idiot, an incompetent, and a religious extremist are what the alternatives are. That and a football coach who hasn't won much anywhere since 2006. I'm supporting the drag queen from Dothan.

quick cliffsnotes / background on who this guy, connections to UA, etc? My mother in law is from Alabama. My impression of the state is that it is essentially the world's largest Wal-Mart.

Bentley is a rich Dermatologist from T-town and a total UAT homer. Generic profile for an Alabama Governor....Rich, Baptist, ties to Bear Jr.

Kind of came out of nowhere in the 2010 GOP primary. No real base outside of T-town.

I'm fairly convinced that Kay Ivey is faking that accent. It sounds a little too ridiculously over the top at times.

I'm actually not too worked up over the Bentley mess at this point. This day has been inevitable for a long time. It's more of a combo of funny/sad. I mean, the guy didn't realize that his phone was still synced to his wife's ipad.

Former state senator, Bear Bryant's dermatologist. Having (literally) touched the Bear retains an annointed-by-God aura among the trailer parks and vape lofts. Wholly owned asset of Bear Junior, who funded his run and apparently selected him because he wasn't out of the Machine bloodline so no one else in the hierarchy would have ownership (Big Luther, now Senator Big Luther, was his pick for AG and not even a UAT grad at any level (Tulane)).

Your impression of the state is not far wrong.

That's pretty much why #FreeUAB got football back despite all the money and political power on the other side: this is the level of drooling idiot we fought against.

Yea, that thought has crossed my mind.

As a LGBT person from Alabama, I was hoping the chaos would continue until the end of the session so that it might prevent some crummy bills getting passed/signed.

Now we have a weak incumbent, who is going to try to position herself for election in 2018, in a nutso GOP primary.

Guess so. He's only eligible because he still owns a lake house in Alabama.
