OT: UT and TXST HS coaches clinics
So I had the privilege of attending coaching clinics at UT and TXST yesterday and today respectively. Got to listen to coaches including Tom Herman, Withers, Craig Naivar, Tim Beck, Mack Brown, and Bill Belichick. Got to watch both UT and TXST practice. UT was without pad so nothing too exciting, while TXST was full pads with circle drill, scrimmage, and a lot of hitting. Both schools let us pick pick the brains of the assistant coaches, but TXST was a lot more hands on, Withers even came and shook all of our hands. They've really made the football complex look amazing on the inside. It looks a lot different than the last time I was in there in 2011. Withers is working hard to build relationships with high school coaches in the state, obviously I wish him the best of luck.

To clarify theses were separate events. TXST could not have had worse timing since UT's clinic was a 2 day affair and they had stuff going on today as well. There were over 1000 coaches at UT yesterday, but there probably wasn't near that amount there today. TXST had at least 50 or so signed up, I only saw the first page of the registration sheet but only 20 or so showed up. Probably due to the UT clinic.

Seriously, we hold our coaches clinic the same day as UT? That is ******* stupid...

On a side note I really like that Withers was engaging as I figured he would be. He seems like a good salesman and it's a shame our department doesn't do more to help him out.

Yea it was definitely a last minute kind of thing, or it at least appeared that way. Coach George, the guy who organized this literally emailed us yesterday morning at 7 with the address of the facility, I mean I of course knew where everything would be but not every coach would. I guess they had to do it on a Saturday and by the time they decided they wanted to do it this was the only one left. It kind of worked out for the best though. It would have felt very crowded even if there were only 100 coaches.

Hopefully we can learn from this and be more prepared next year. Good programs build relationships with good coaches and we can't expect all those good coaches to be TXST alum lol. Glad you had a good experience and thank you for sharing with us. I knew we had this but never heard anything about it.

Yea there is definitely some polishing up to be done. It was a good starting point though.
