Trajectory is some of it. Norvell has a solid staff with a lot of recruiters on it. Tubby's process is different and at a different starting point.

Tubby's process is to not recruit then take a bunch of low level players and barely make the tournament in a league where losing still raises your RPI. We will see if that works here.

Interesting responses. Human nature is funny to me. People generally see what they want to see.

Which brings us to Norvell. How is he getting done in recruiting what has never been done here before? Hard work? Magnetic personality? Playing the game? Willingness to work in gray areas?
like comparing 'red delicious' apples to 'pink lady' apples.
Fail thread.
so much so you just couldn't resist chiming in?

I don't really care how Norvell is doing it, he's doing it.

RE: Tubby - Norvell
Tubby doing it right is a myth. He certainly doesn't coach players up. A player that plays for tubby is the same player when he leaves as when he gets there.
Is right being lazy? If it is then tubby is your guy.
But what about the Randolph Morris magic fax that appeared out of nowhere? Even UK fans did a double take on that one. The NCAA looked the other way because they knew tubby wasn't going to win anyway.
The media loved UK while we had tubby. They hated us under Rupp, Hall, Pitino and now Cal. Why is that?
Besides calling tubby TLT we also called him TT, Teflon Tubby. Nothing stuck to him. There was a thread at a UK website yesterday asking "Is the Teflon coming off the tub?". Referring to the stuff at this board. I will give you Memphis fans credit. You are on to his shenanigans far sooner than we were. It took Minnesota 4 years but then they had an AD change and that bought tubby an extra year.
But, he is a world class grifter. There's a method to his madness. Does he have a large buyout at Memphis if he's fired? If so, there's your explanation for his letting you guys see behind the curtain this quickly. Get fired, get paid and sail away.

The people in Tulsa LOVE Tubby, to this day.
The people in Lubbock DESPERATELY wanted to keep Tubby.
Has Minnesota or Georgia been world-beaters since Tubby left those places?
Your post is rife with errors and half-truths.

That is hilarious right there. Lock the thread, because we've heard it all.
Did you see the infomercial ESPN ran for you last night?

Tubby is closer to Rip if you want to make a comparison. Not sure who Norvell is like yet. Nobody whoever coached at Memphis that I can think of.

Norvell is doing whatever it takes to continue to build the program. It's probably a little bit of everything you noted above. But, he's getting it done.
I've said this a couple times, but I believe Tubby was brought in to maintain moderate success for basketball in a CLEAN manner. I don't believe our leadership wants to jeopardize our success in football (or a potential opportunity at a P5 conference) through potential basketball violations. Tubby is the right guy, if that's what you're looking to achieve.

I hear ya and it certainly appears that is the direction the athletic department has chosen to go. I hope it does not turn out to be the wrong decision. If football falls back off (and we all know one bad hire could kill it) and basketball cannot be saved then what?
I worry some people take for granted the decades that basketball propped up the entire enterprise over there. Matter of fact it is still the only thing making money which is remarkable when you think about it.
