Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Athletics Department is currently seeking candidates for one graduate assistant position in the Event Operations/Championships Unit. This position will assist four full time staff members in the coordination and operation of 22 varsity sports and other special events. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Specific sport responsibilities will be assigned by the professional staff.
Assisting in the day to day operations, setup/strike of assigned athletic sports/events.
Staffing and supervision of part-time event staff for each assigned event the GA is assigned.
Creation/maintenance of visiting team guides and various operations manuals for assigned regular season & post-season events.
Scheduling, setup/strike for assigned facility space(s). Physical labor & lifting required at times.
Upkeep and maintenance of assigned inventory, supplies, materials and equipment.
This position will also have the opportunity to gain experience with hosting NCAA Championships and other special events.
General office duties
Other duties as assigned.
The Graduate Assistantship is a two year commitment, renewable after the first year at the discretion of the athletics department. Please include three professional references along with the resume and cover letter.

This is not a formal Graduate Assistantship through the UK Graduate School, however, this position will include a combination of tuition waiver and monthly stipend not to exceed a pre-determined allocation. Additional compensation over the summer months will be determined at the discretion/need of the athletics department.

Start Date: 8-1-17.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Passionate, dedicated, hard-working and organized with excellent written/verbal communication skills and a strong desire to pursue a career in athletic event operations. Superior integrity, ownership, accountability and responsibility. Prior experience in athletic event/facility operations. Familiar with NCAA procedures and protocols. Extra consideration will be given to qualified in-state applicants.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

Man, if we find out that this is Caliparis plan all along, I am going to be mad and steaming. I made a thread the other day about Calipari sneaking through the back door while he was here. Made plans to get all of the Lawson's out of here. Give Keelon a job within the administration. Could this job opening or another one be open for him?

this would really surprise me.
the two lawsons do not have the athleticism to be Cal's type of players.

I do not see this happening. If Cal were to do that it would be for a much better players than the Lawsons

Graduate assistants make about $1 to $2k or so a month, and have to be actual graduate students pursuing a master's or PHD degree. Let's be realistic here.

Even the NCAA would not be able to ignore paying a graduate assistant over 6 figures.

I can't foresee a scenario by which the Lawsons would end up at Kentucky. From a pure basketball standpoint, Dedric might be good enough to get minutes, but K.J. isn't, in my opinion. From a non-basketball standpoint, wouldn't THAT be a fun fire-starter? Pass the popcorn, please!

With the state of the program, I'm not sure a lot of folks would even care. Really, what difference would it make?

Calipari would be doing it for the 3 that are still being recruited.

If Cal wanted the Lawson boys, does anyone really think he would have to hire Daddy to get them? Cal gets who he wants every year. If he didn't want the headache of hanger-ons and family members inserting themselves in the program when he was at Memphis, he sure doesn't want it now.
