GS Cheerleading National Champs
The GS coed squad won a national championship at NCA College Nationals in the intermediate coed group. It was their first national championship for coed. The all girl squad missed out in their 6th championship in 8 years by .33 points.

Just wait till football season. It will get far worse with every road game you play.

How did CCU do in the competition? Must have had a happy ending.

I can see our student section slinging play money at them.

Nice! Congrats! Looks like they won the Small Coed Division (coed team with less than a certain number of guys).

RE: GS Cheerleading National Champs
Not to take anything away from these titles, I think Appalachian has won some of these in years past, but how many titles are given out and how many schools compete in each title area.
This same organization does some high school competitions, I think in Myrtle Beach every year. They call it a national title but I don't think it is more than SE part of the country. And I am not sure, and maybe their are qualifications, but I think the main entry requirement is paying the entry fee and then being able to afford travel costs and hotel/food. Then with so many different divisions and such there were only 3 or 4 schools in a specific competition.
A high school I taught at until recently won a lot of titles at this competition. Knowing what I know about the school I found it odd we would excel so much in this one area. Not that the squad was not good, and they had a good coach, but it seemed odd to win as much as they did. I was curious and started digging around a website and it seemed that they were up against only a few schools. It may have been coming in third in nationals could also be coming in last sort of thing.
The college level may be able to bring in a more national feel, and have fewer and therefore larger pools of competition. I still don't mind seeing a SB school win something, even GaSo, so congrats, but not sure what it really means either.

Yeah, High School Championships are a joke. Same schools go every year, and the reality is the only schools that can go are the one's who can afford to send kids to Disney for several days.
I am not sure the difference between those "championships" and the college version.

It is going to be brutal...I would just not bring cheerleaders away for a decade if I was CCU.

This is a true national competition, we competed against large P5's like Michigan. This is the second level but our all girls team is going to the highest level next year. We won the FCS title if you want to put it in football terms. Schools choose what level they want to compete at with qualifiers like being an FBS school, football or basketball only etc etc.
As fare as HS there is regional but they do have a real national championship as well.

RE: GS Cheerleading National Champs
Yeah, as states above, you basically have the divisions broken down into FBS, FCS, DII, DII, just like with football. However you can choose to compete in the Advanced level or intermediate level. A lot of schools do compete at the intermediate level, such as Ohio State, Michigan, UNC, FSU, TAMU, etc, because schools like Louisville offer scholarships for cheerleaders, so they obviously have a bigger advantage. So once you break it down into the division classifications, you also have all girl, which is self explanitory, small coed, which I think is 3 guys or less, then Coed which can have as many guys on the team. They may not do intermediate in some divisions though, depending on how many people total are in that classification. NCA and UCA are the two big competitions that happen every year that colleges from across the country go to. Most schools usually just do one or the other.

First off, I'm not comparing the two but your opening sentence made me think of Panama City in the summer. I think every week there is a World Series Champion crowned in baseball.
