Who do you play OOC next year so far?
UConn:
3-game Phil Knight Invitational (loaded field)
vs. Villanova
@ Arizona
Syracuse @MSG
Possibly @Auburn or it may be moved to the following year

RE: 2017-2018 OOC Basketball Thread
WSU still looking for games. Especially depending what they do with the Tulsa game. But here is what it is supposed to be:
@Tulsa
Vs Oklahoma (Intrust Bank Arena)
@ Oklahoma St
Maui Invitational (California, LSU, Marquette, Michigan, Notre Dame, VCU)
St Louis series ended this past year. Won't be renewed. So looking to replace that one.
Need to replace the Tulsa series.
Played Colorado State this past year for the MVC/MWC challenge. Need to find a replacement for that.
Definitely some work to do. But Marshall will get some quality games. This past year looked good on paper in November. Just several teams didn't live up to expectations. I am sure this year will work out better.

Tulsa plays in the Puerto Rico tip-off classic which has a good field including South Carolina, Florida State, Iowa State and Illinois State. We also had Wichita State but....

It would not surprise me if you keep the Tulsa game and play Tulsa once in conference. Xavier and Butler did this in Butler's year in the A-10.

I actually wouldn't mind that. Would open up another game against Temple, UCF, etc. Likely better than the 7th open spot we would otherwise have on our schedule.

Which former MVC rivalries do you hope to continue in non conference, if any? Northern Iowa? Illinois State? Have you guys played Creighton any since they left?

Temple:
Big Five Games (Nova and St. Joes at home, Penn and Lasalle on the road)
Wisconsin
@ George Washington
Charleston Classic (3 games with Auburn, Clemson, Dayton, Indiana State, Old Dominion, Ohio and Hofstra in the field)
There have also been rumors of a neutral site game with Kentucky but nothing confirmed at this point.

We have not played Creighton in Men's basketball but have in some other sports. There have been talks the past couple years between them. I think it could happen.
As far as the rest of the Valley. I don't think Marshall would be on board with a h-h unless a team can be consistent top 100 RPI. UNI has been the most consistent over the years. However, with a depleted MVC can they maintain it? They were 161 in RPI this past season. Probably need to wait and see how they maintain. The rest of the Valley is very cyclical. Illinois St was great this year. But next year, without some of their best pieces, will they maintain? Not so sure. Plus a TON of bad blood between the programs.
Short answer is no, I don't think we schedule a Valley team unless they are willing to be bought. And most probably wouldn't be willing.

Basically this.
I am hopeful we can work something out with CU. would love to see a H/H/KC setup. I just want an excuse to visit KC and that game would sell out Sprint Center.
I could eventually see a H/H setup with any school that can maintain a level of respectability but not any time soon. And probably never with Illinois State, at least while Muller is coaching there. Best bets would be UNI, Bradley or Missouri State. All three have some decent history and/or fan bases that would make it fun. But BU and MSU have to step their game up. If I had to pick just one, I'd hope it would be BU. I'll miss the Toasters.

Why haven't you guys ever struck anything up with K-State? I know I read something about Kansas not wanting to play you guys but I would think you might be able to do something with K-State.

You want to know one reason why we're glad to be out of the Valley? We didn't have any rivals there. We had a bunch of resource-draining weak sisters.
In all seriousness, the Valley's only use to us right now is as a source of buy games. Everyone in Wichita is sick of those 20 point thrashings and ready for something new. Give it a year or two and then maybe add Illinois State or UNI as a buy game to get better attendance for our tune up games.

K-State tries to hold onto them being the 2nd best basketball team in the state even though everyone knows they're not. They can't allow for confirmation on the court that we've blown by them. Kansas doesn't want to legitimize us in any way.
This is why we're playing Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Yeah K-State likes to THINK they are KU. Basically think there is nothing to gain by playing us. Or just wants to buy us. It's laughable. So instead, we play the state of Oklahoma.

RE: 2017-2018 OOC Basketball Thread
We haven't had a rival in the MVC since Creighton left. Creighton was a true rival, but they have ducked us since they moved to the Big East. I'd love for that to change. As mentioned above, in KC that game would be packed and crazy.
As for Kansas St., pretty much the points mentioned above, but another aspect is that Bruce's job has been on shaky ground for a few seasons. He is just trying to pile up as many wins as possible. The last thing he wants to do for job security is have us beat them by double digits.
