We didn't decline a postseason bid did we? I thought everybody involved said if we got a bowl bid it was going to be accepted.

The truth is a bowl game bid was never extended to UAB.

Lol thats what was told to the public.
In all seriousness i dont think we got an invite since we were one of four eligible teams who didn't go bowling in 2014. I still think some sec schools threw some games that year to get all ten slots.

Considering they killed our FBall program on Dec 2nd, 3 days after game 12. we didn't wait long enough to receive a bowl invite. Not even all the lower tier bowl bids were sealed up before championship Saturday.

RE: UAB football is back, but how quickly can the Blazers be successful?
The smart thing for the Wattzis would have been to accept a bowl bid and conduct a celebratory goodbye tour, weeping crocodile tears all the while. They could have buried UAB football right there.
That being the smart thing, Ray of course would have ordered the bid rejected. He did not have the opportunity.
Always remember the 2nd of December, and Ray Watts' treacherous plot. There is no good reason, that Pumpkinhead's treason, should ever be forgot.
That said, neither do we need to dwell in that unpleasant past:
1. We had a fine spring game with a record, happy crowd. There was craft beer and Dreamland. Craft beer and Dreamland!
2. Politicians are coming to kiss our collective ass. Sure, Big Luther's probably going to get primaried into oblivion, but when was the last time a sitting state-wide elected official had any interest in our ass other than to kick it?
3. We are building fine new facilities and raising the money to fund them. We have a fire pit! It's not quite a waterfall, but you have to start somewhere.
4. The city of Birmingham has been with us from the start.
5. And finally, we made this happen. Not rich dudes. Not politicians. They followed us. All ages, all races, all genders, all political persuasions, we came together to fight "a political war," as Clay Ryan put it, and the forces of good won. That never happens. They make movies about this sort of thing because it's man-bites-dog. We are unicorns!
I was thrilled just to see the dragon helmets in action again. I can't even bring myself to care if we're any good as long as we play 12 games.

It wouldn't surprise me that no bid was extended due to everyone knew what was coming & didn't want to be part of the mess that also was coming. There might have been a good chance for one to be extended if the black cloud wasn't hanging over the program in Nov.

There were 79 eligible teams that year for 76 slots, with all five CUSA spots taken by teams with 7 wins (per conference rules). ESPN reported at the time that UAB was untouchable for an at-large; I took as inference in their report that no one in bowl-world would risk the wrath of the red elephant in the room.
But again, a goodbye tour would have been a long-term disaster. It didn't happen that way. We have a bright future: we already did the impossible and I don't doubt that Clark can achieve the merely difficult.

Or Clark blew this thing up, because he didnt want all those Callaway recruits making him go 6-6 again. (Just kidding)
