Hopefully our RPI doesn't tank. CUSA is so bad and we schedule so soft OOC that any home loss kills us.
Dropped two spots as of right now.

We were at 20 prior to the loss. 25 now. That's 5 spots.
Like I said, going to be very difficult to host. Every home loss kills us and our OOC is a joke. Just hope we don't get sent to Baton Rouge.

Took 2/3. Nothing to brag about but it's fine
No idea how anyone is/was even mentioning hosting. It's early April and we have played exactly one game against a Top 50 team.

agree...today's game was just a simple brain fart that happens when you get on a run of victories...
I said it a few weeks ago, if it starts getting in their heads is where the TTTs will begin....
on a positive note, both ODU and FAU dropped their games today....
also, Rice has let go of the rope....

Sorry.
I wasn't around for 2003 (well, I was, but too young to remember it). First memories of USM baseball were Beau Griffin's HR against OM and run-ruling #1 Tulane in 2005.
Got my hopes up in 2011 and 2016 and probably am again in 2017. Just would love to see a Hattiesburg Regional eventually.

Nothing to apologize about. I got to see the 2003 one. It was a blast and I'd love to see another. Of course, I would take winning a regional over hosting one any day.
We did it once and I think our fans forget how good that team had to be to host. That 2003 team was the best collection of talent we've had and played in a much better conference with prime-era Rick Jones Tulane, a Houston team that was one game from Omaha that year, and an ECU team that would win 50 games the next season. They were steady the whole year, lost one weekend series, won the regular season title, and the tournament title in Tulane's house. And that was the last team selected to host that year (as a 2 seed).
I just think people are setting themselves up for disappointment when they start talking about hosting in March and April when we don't even know that this is a Regional team.

WarrenNolan shows we were 23 and now 25. That's 2 spots.

RE: Baseball vs FIU
That was prior to the week beginning. Their live RPI had us #20 on Sunday morning.
Home losses to subpar opponents are killer, even when you win the series. Our RPI was so solid last year because we rarely lost at home, and when we did, it was to a regional team/top 50 opponent (except Samford). Already 3 losses to 100+ opponents at home in 2017.

And LT is a couple of W's away from our record vs t50 RPI being 4-1. We handle OM at home and we're potentially 5-1...not to mention ODU has been under t50 RPI the past week.
Still have a lot of ball left to play. Definitely possible for us to host, we just have to take care of business.

I know it's early, but I think the winner of that ODU/Tech series goes to a regional, loser doesn't. Nate Harris moving to the rotation has given Tech somewhat of a boost.
I think CUSA is a 2-bid league.

I think FAU still has a decent shot as well.

Why would tech lock in a regional with a win? They're 4-8 in conference, and 12 losses so far on the season. Yes, their RPI is 62. But that's not good enough right now IMO.
Right now it's USM, ODU, and FAU now on the bubble.. (They're at 9 losses, with a weak RPI and SOS).
Unfortunately, Charlotte's fallen off the radar losing 7 of their last 9, or I'd have had Charlotte as the third team with USM and ODu.

Tech's schedule eases way up after this week. They can still finish above .500 in CUSA play if they can win this series.
FAU is better than their RPI (92) indicates, but they're really going to need to finish strong to get in the mix.

For LA Tech, the ODU series may be a must-win for them to have a shot. 4-7 against The Top 50 (if they lost 2/3 to ODU and even took next Tuesday's game against McNeese) with losses in almost every single decent weekend series matchup: That probably isn't and shouldn't get anyone a bid. I expect them to go on a tear at the end given the schedule but it is going to take a lot to overcome their terrible performance against just decent competition so far.
FAU may be good but will have be pretty close to perfect over the next month or two. Shame on them for playing a horrible OOC schedule despite being in Florida.
I would add above that ODU is probably one bad weekend away from the bubble, as well. We might only be one or two, ourselves.
One or two bids is most likely with three being the ceiling (of course, depending on if anyone goes on a crazy tourney run like FIU did two years ago).
