Weaver 88-90
Hunter's Ridge 90-92
South Avenue 92-93
South Main Street 93-94

I remember that both the South Avenue and Water Street houses didn't have air conditioning, and rent for them was $150/month plus utilities. The South Main Street house was heated by one of those big propane tanks and I'll never forget the weekend we all went away and came back to find the tank had run out of fuel and my fish froze in the tank.

78-79 Hanson ( freshmen, JV football team , and the men's track team - dorm otherwise known as "the Wild Kingdom")
79-81 Greek housing on the Row ( before Rose did all in his power to dismantle a very successful Greek system)
81-82 in a duplex on Harrison Street, parallel to Main. Midway Market was at the end of the street.... very nice.
82-83 WAY out Port Rep Rd on Rosedale Dr. Well past the new fields of today. A hell of a walk to classes in the Valentine' Blizzard of '83!

94-95 Garber
95-96 Ikenberry
96-98 Olde Mill

As for those who were saying earlier that on campus was better and left them more connected to neighbors, Olde Mill was pretty awesome when we were there too. We knew pretty much all of our neighbors and partied with them often, not to mention several of the apartments in our immediate vicinity were rented by friends of ours from when we lived on campus.

The funny thing was that after all the wild parties we had there, the only time the cops ever showed up to one was a pretty tame event a few weeks after graduation with just a few recently graduated friends, and pretty much all of our neighbors were in attendance. I got a noise violation which would have required me to go to court after I was supposed to start with IBM in Charlotte. Had to write a letter... I think it was dropped, but don't really know for sure.

Would also definitely say that Copper Beech was the same way as well. Always felt well connected with others even after leaving living on campus

RE: Where did you live?
Hunter's Ridge in the late 80's/early 90's was very much like that, too. There were tons of JMU students living there and further up Port Republic, and it wasn't that far of a walk to the lakeside dorms. When I lived on South Avenue it wasn't that far from campus and we were across the street from more apartments (the names of which escaped me).

The house on S. Main was a block down from Court Square. At that time Jess's Lunch was active, but that was just about it in terms of restaurants or shops in that area. That house felt isolated from campus, but I didn't spend much time there.
