I think you have to extend an offer to Penny.
Whether Penny would accept or not is a different story.
We need a former Tiger in this role. Someone who has a heart for Memphis basketball
This position could put Penny in the right situation to prepare for the HC position down the road.
Andre Turner
Antonio Anderson
Andre Hollins
Those are the As. Penny won't take anything less than the head coach.
Also fire Saul and hire Lionel Hollins.
Lionel Hollins isn't the type of coach Tubby Smith needs. Lionel wouldn't recruit.
Lionel HATES college BB. Wouldn't even watch his son play. He wouldn't work for that salary anyway.

You'd have to move Saul to make it work
I talked to Tony, he'd love to coach at Memphis
Tony or Penny would make sense
But Saul would have move over a chair

He knows and has known for years that Saul is not fit for this.
Here's the real kicker.
He isn't either.
And he knows that, too.
Money, money, money, money.
Money.

How in the hell is a legendary, HOF coach not fit for this job? This is some straight bull##%%. Again, Memphis is not Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, or North Carolina.

RE: Replacement for Lawson's DBO position
Is anyone sure we are even going to fill the position?
I asked the online 8 ball.
Are we gonna fill the Lawson position...?
http://www.ask8ball.net/
My reply is no.

Then I asked if Penny would move into an assistant coaching position with the Tigers.
It is decidedly so.

Penny ain't taking anything that's not a guaranteed head coach in waiting job with the Tigers. Take that to the bank. Might not want that.

Tubby stated people are inquiring and interested in applying for the position. He said there would be some job description changes. One of interest to me...a recruiting coordinator title added as one of the changes.

I will not, however, feed into the narcissistic ramblings and prognostications about the future of Tiger basketball. Let the rebuilding process begin. The same way a first year President of the United States is.
