Tubby isn't a good fit for this job. It isn't going to work.

If he inherited as big of a mess as you claim how was it possible for him to run off 4 players who were rated as 4 stars each. NONE of which he recruited.

Team has a lot of talent just no a lot of depth due to his not doing any significant recruiting after he took the job.

Great post and right on!! The Cancers are gone!!

so are all the high major D-1 players
You're the only thing high. Majorly. Dedric was a decent D 1 player that has trouble against athletic high motor bigs. But has the skill set to get by. The rest? Jeremiah was a nice surprise at times because the kid is a defender, high motor and hungry to be better. But still low mid starter.

So, next year Tubby will have at least a first team all-conference player and the conference rookie of the year?

Didn't take Nick King back either so, he must have some really good super secret recruits lined up and plenty of D1 players ready to bring in so that he can run meaningful practices instead of walk-throughs against the intramural all-stars?

I support Tiger athletics. I cheer for them to win. But Tubby has done nothing to generate excitement on this team. I'll continue to support, but this has all the makings of a complete dumpster fire.

I'm kind of tired of different players each year being the tail that wags the dog. That's why I quit going to bb games about four years ago, after being a season ticket holder for ten years. WAY too much drama, not enough energy and pride on the floor.

Dang, I miss the days of Antonio Anderson, Willie Kemp and CDR. Those guys had the swagger, but they backed it up by their play and focus and ice in their veins.

Rudd and Bowen to whatever extent orchestrated the hiring of Fuente and then Norvell, so let this play out. THEY aren't the problem in this "situation." Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Most ignorant post of the year!

What about it is wrong?

You didn't ask me but I will respond. For starters, He inherited more talent than he has had since he won with Rick's players at KY. The mess Josh left him you say--- He will never have that much talent again. I thought he would coach um up people said--what a joke. WE WILL RUE THE DAY !!!!!

LMAO
again...LMFAO

Inherited some talent from a team that couldn't make the NIT last season, and this year's team is a shell of a team after we lost most of our scoring and rebounding from last season.

Talented team...SMDH

Those guys were proud of the name on the jersey. Heck in the sweet 16 against MO, it was obvious Cal was checked out but Evans didn't give a $hit...he still went all out. These Lawsons quit on the team, quit on the city. Even if you can't get along with the coach, have some damn pride. F them.

Be interesting to see how many players on the roster at the start of this past season our folks on this board think could start for a Top 25 team. My answer is almost certainly exactly 1 and that is Dedric. Really solid college player. Beyond that you would have Top 25 role players in Crawford and Martin because of their defense. Don't really think Rivers would be in a rotation and depending on the style KJ might be a 4th off the bench type guy. Thoughts?

RE: People stop!!!
I'm sad, upset, disappointed...... My Tigers, who I have followed for decades, are in a world of hurt - No Sh%t Sherlock. Any intelligent follower of the program, can see that our Tigers have been effected by 'numerous' variables over the past years:

- Coaching Consistency. Effects recruiting big time. Yes, Gonzaga is thriving, Xavier is thriving, Wichita State is thriving, Dayton was thriving - just lost it's coach, Cincinnati is thriving, etc. There are other non Power 5 teams thriving. (Yes, being in a Power 5 conference is impactful also). Look at the common denominator at those schools - Coaching Consistency.

- Coach Cal. He took our program to great heights. Loved him while he was doing what he was doing. At what price to us? Program on probation; Banners condemned (we were erased from history); Left the program when we really needed him. You know the history. Major setbacks for the program.

- Josh Pastner. He really wanted to do a good job. But, he came in with a lack of experience and skill set to keep us at a high level. Not really a fault of his. He could not sustain the program. He took us to numerous tournaments, had some success, but the changing environment overcame him (internal team chaos, national recruiting, recruit evaluation, on the job training/learning caught up with him, Lawson's(no win situation). Great guy with a tough, tough challenge.

- Team Stability. Coach Smith is a very good coach, not a miracle worker. Having to handle that whole Lawson scene, no bench, and other factors, on some level requires a miracle worker. Until Cal got the right NBA level players and strong supporting players, we were very mediocre. The Lawsons will probably move on to Kentucky or Ole Miss or some other taker. Good luck with that. Team stability every year, in recent years, has shown it's ugly head.

Memphis basketball has had a hard row to hoe for awhile now. We need to settle down and allow this staff an opportunity to stabilize what years of "stuff" has impacted upon our program.

I hate where we are, but I will always be a fan, always attend and watch games. Hurt with the pain and celebrate the joy. Hope we have some more joy.

Disclaimer: Not trying to call out any, poster, fan, parent, player, coach, Administrator, hater, poser, or malcontent.
