RE: Tuesday night vs Coogs
D1 Baseball noticed:
— Rice is having a miserable season thus far, but the Owls had something to cheer about Tuesday night in a dominant 9-0 win over crosstown rival Houston. The Owls three-hit the Cougars and tallied 15 hits of their own with outfielder Charlie Warren going 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Tuesday night vs Coogs
Yes let's celebrate this one no matter our record...then let's beat the hell out of them at home next week to take the trophy. Since Rice recruits so heavily from Houston area, it's actually a big deal to win the series vs Coogs like we always used to.

Surprising that we can be 10-21 yet outhit opponents .271 to .251 and outslug them .394 to .352. Walks, steal %, and defense all much worse than opponents.

RE: Tuesday night vs Coogs
Happy to beat UH. Hopeful that winning 3 of the last 5 is some semblance of building momentum for the season.
I am with others in questioning why Esquivel and Otto were used. I think using weekend starters to relieve in mid-week games is a bad practice generally, and something Rice had moved away from a while ago. I would much rather save their bullets and give other guys some work. If the team can't hold a 9-0 lead without Esquivel/Otto in the last few innings, then no reason to even try the rest of the season.
And why send Amador out there with a 9-run lead, just to pull him after 1 batter? Either give him a little leash to try and work out his kinks, or don't put him out there at all.
Seems like it would have been a nice night to give Schragger and/or Wright an opportunity. In their limited opportunities, they have thrown strikes and even struck out a few guys.

AVG doesn't really matter. Opponents beating us in OBP .364 to .343 (which gets to your point about walks).

UH's Romero now suspended indefinitely for "multiple violations of Athletic Department and University policies".

How many felonies does it take to get a star player kicked off a UH team? Presumably fewer than Baylor.

No need to assume it was felonies. Could be he just didn't go to class. Maybe missed a test in bio-engineering.
Yeah, sure..
