The exit fee is 1 million from the OVC.Their attendance is terrible.Look elsewhere for a better fit. They are really broke.Really.

They are not MURRAY. MURRAY has some money and excellent support--Morehead-no.

If they can't justify paying off a measly million over 10 years, with booster support, to get into a better conference, then I'd question them being in DI to begin with. Doubt that's the case.

Horizon might be willing to help out, as well.

Morehead State makes zero sense for the Horizon League. Rural school for one. They also are broke. Robert Morris, Fort Wayne or IUPUI.

Wiki says Morehead has an endowment of $22.5 mill, almost certainly one of the lowest in D1. They would have to spend more than 5% of that to change conferences.

RE: The Next Realignment Effect on the Horizon League
If the Horizon loses Valparaiso, and takes both IUPUI and IPFW, this may put the Summit in a fairly serious bind as it would only have five baseball teams (NDSU, SDSU, UNO, WIU, ORU). You wonder if WIU especially would be looking at another conference, like the OVC.

The most logical add for the Summit, UMKC, does not play baseball. Chicago State is not long for Division I. Independent NYIT may not even satisfy the sport sponsorship rule, plus the school is in New York. The next best option is Northern Colorado, currently in the Big Sky. Presumably football will not be allowed to move over before North Dakota's football program does, but at least the Summit can keep its automatic bid alive for a few years.

Now if WIU leaves then you question how long the Summit might still be a conference.

Zero chance WIU leaves the Summit for the OVC.

If anything, you look at EIU leaving the OVC for the Summit.

More than likely, neither move occurs.

Summit 9 + Horizon 9 + UND from big sky = 19 (18 conference basketball games, single round robin).

Horizon thought it would leave Summit in the dust but Summit seems to be the better Conference now....especially without valpo.

Yeah, forgot about the $1 million exit fee. Morehead's never leaving the Ohio Valley.

Horizon expansion comes down to Robert Morris, Fort Wayne, IUPUI & UMKC.

Just merge the WAC and Summit and Drop Chicago St, W Ill, lets move on.

The Dakotas, Denver, and Omaha sure as heck aren't partnering up with a for-profit Christian bookstore in Arizona.

No thanks

Probably more with geography.

What about Loyola-Chicago or Valpo....they are for profit, yeah? Would Dakotas and Ohm partner with them?

Isn't Denver a Christian school?

RE: The Next Realignment Effect on the Horizon League
If Valpo goes to the MVC I expect their replacement in the Horizon to be IUPUI or IPFW (or Fort Wayne or whatever they fancy themselves these days)

If Murray St leaves the OVC think there are a whole slew of candidates that will either get interest or publicly lobby for inclusion. Chattanooga, Kennesaw St, North Alabama, and WIU are all football playing options and then you have nonfootball possibilities like Lipscomb out there.

I think UMKC has learned their lesson and will plead to get back in the Summit and considering the Summit's options I think that is the route they will go.

They'd probably lose to GCU "The Bookstore" anyways. Kidding aside GCU has help raise the WAC bar since joining the WAC what mid-major can pull in Louisville at home?

GCU plus New Mexico State Olympics and Air Force Olympics would work. (Assuming Air Force wants to go to the American)

Dakota 4
Omaha
Denver
ORU
NMSU
GCU

No, I believe GCU is the only for profit D-I school.

DU isn't religious anymore, it was founded by the Methodists

You do know the difference between a private non-profit and a for profit online school that just happen to have a campus? Liberty is the closest to GCU, except at least Liberty claims non-profit status yet no one wants to be associated with Liberty either.

Those commercials you see on TV for GCU? There is a reason for them. Oh, and then there is that pesky lawsuit they settled which claimed they were nothing more then an online diploma mill much like the U of Phoenix. Yep, they have lots of money. But no state university in the Dakota's will be associated with GCU now or ever. Donors would run the other way at the thought. It is still about academic integrity, GCU have none.

If Horizon takes 1 or 2 from Summit who do you see the Summit targeting?
