RE: ACC CG back in Charlotte now?
I read an article where Emmert stated that the NCAA committee that blocked NC events after HB2 had 4 problems with the law, and he stated that this compromise bill (which people from both sides still seem to dislike) only ends concerns with 2 or 3 of the 4 issues.
Who knows what the NCAA will decide next week when they meet again. I bet the ACC waits until the NCAA makes a decision, for better or worse.

I know the people of NC doesn't like seeing all that money go else where, but if I was the ACC decision maker here I would be looking into having ALL my games played in Washington DC. It's neutral to everyone in the conference and seems to be centrally located to the conference as well. I'm sure it will make its way back there, but it may still b a few years or so do to this stupid bill.

Earlier this week, Scott Dupree, the executive director of the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, which supported repeal, posted on Twitter a statement saying that the N.C.A.A. had set a deadline for the repeal of the law: Thursday around noon.

The bill hastily passed by the North Carolina legislature yesterday doesn't really do much to assuage the concerns expressed by the NCAA. But, if I had to guess, I believe the NCAA will be willing to pretend that it did so that it can resume assigning events to that state. And if the NCAA does back down, I have little doubt that the ACC will as well.

If the law passed does not satisfy the ACC and the NCAA then all hell will break out in NC. Roy Cooper may as well resign his office because he will Never get any additional cooperation from the legislature and I'll bet HB2 will get re-enacted.

The worst parts of the bill are intact. The bathroom parts that had all the potential bathroom moniters excited are overturned. You can still be fired for no other reason than you are gay and your city can't pass ordinances that might protect you.

Why would Cooper resign? He's not the problem. He never guaranteed this would be enough. He was never going to get cooperation from the General Assembly anyway.

So the worst parts are still intact?

I'm not familiar enough with the new legislation to know if it was a success or not? I know that both sides are spinning like hell right now and they are both pathological liars, so I will reserve judgment for now.
Honestly, I don't understand this entire situation? Why are people so hell-bent on discriminating against a subsection of citizens? In other words, why do you care where someone takes a squat? The entire controversy has never made any sense to me. It feels like a story out of the Onion designed to make fun of the Bible Belt, only in this case it is absolutely real.

The other part of this that makes no sense to me is the ordinance ban aspect of this bill.
I don't understand how conservatives, who constantly preach about states rights over federal rights because it gives the people greater control of how they are governed; and then turn around and completely change course when it comes to municipal rights versus state rights?
I mean if the core tenet is that you want a smaller, more localized government, how can you be completely for it in one instance and then completely against it in the next?
This is why I hate both the conservatives and the liberals. You are two sides of the very same coin. You're both completely full of it and are not to be trusted...ever.
You both want the government to stay out of your affairs… Until you want them to intervene in something you care about. Then the government needs to get the hell out of your affairs again.
You're just both completely full of it and anyone who follows the hard line on either side is an absolute moron.

Not much to disagree with here.

RE: ACC CG back in Charlotte now?
Matt Murschel ( Orlando Sentinel):
The NCAA Board of Governors ‘reluctantly’ voted to allow North Carolina to be considered as a host for its championship events.... “We are actively determining site selections, and this new law has minimally achieved a situation where we believe NCAA championships may be conducted in a nondiscriminatory environment,” the NCAA said in a statement released Tuesday morning.... The board, however, added that any site awarded an event must also provide documentation demonstrating how student-athletes and fans will be protected from discrimination.

RE: ACC CG back in Charlotte now?
Good, maybe we can finally put this all behind us? I guess it will all come down to the sponsors – doesn't it always? If people feel protected by this revised law, great! Let us all move on.
Conversely, if this is just a repackaging of the same discriminatory ideas from the old bill, then of course this isn't going away. People are going to mobilize and they are going to target sponsors and sponsors are going to pull out. And if the sponsors pull out, so too will the NCAA. It is not an ideologically driven organization, it is a commercially driven organization.
As I've said a few times now, I don't understand this one at all? It just doesn't make sense to me. The whole thing seems goofy from toe to tip. However, I don't live in North Carolina so it's really not my business.
It just seems like a really strange place to plant one's flag. On where people have to go to the bathroom...BY LAW!
However, again, that's up to the good people of North Carolina. If they are OK with it, and the member institutions of the NCAA are OK with it, and the sponsors are OK with it, then I guess I am OK with it as well.
I just don't like it when I read people conflating transgender people with pedophiles. Those are two separate issues and if we try to marry the two, that's when the conversation becomes distorted.
The research is all very clear. Trans people are no more or less likely to be attracted to children than are people of any other walk of life. In other words, Mike Pence is just as likely to be attracted to your seven-year-old niece as RuPaul.
Oh well, good luck to all concerned.
