Spending all that money and you still can't win the WAC!

No reason Dollar should have had SU playing so poorly 4 out of 5 years in the WAC with the 2nd highest budget. Then he went and made excuses to the Seattle Times saying this is SUs peak and it wont get better than this. What a joke. Love him as a person, but im so glad he's gone. Especially after trying to justify what hes done in his tenure here. Going from 4k average attendance as an INDEPENDENT to 1k IN THE WAC during your time coaching should say enough!

Btw, Seattle U would be the 6th highest budget in the WCC, but 4-7 are all within 7 spots of each other in the rankings.

Yup, given Seattle U.'s basketball budget and talent rich location, Cameron Dollar should have had the Redhawks beating up on the Big West and Big Sky and very competitive with most of the WCC (minus Gonzaga). There is no reason why Seattle shouldn't be a much better basketball program right now. It's all coaching... bad coaching.

GCU is garbage.

GCU spends more money on their coaches than NMSU. NMSU spends more money on their players than GCU.

I wouldn't go far as to say GCU is garbage (which by the way is Franks word of the month). However, I'm not buying a lot of things about GCU. It's all dependent on winning of course, Dan Majerle sticking around, and Jerry Colangelo being involved, which IMO you GCU fans are dreaming if they think Majerle and Colangelo being involved will last forever. NMSU on the other hand has a long list of successful coaches and for mid major schools, most appearances in the NCAA tourney and if and when Weir leaves (which he will for big money if he keeps having success), I'm confident NMSU will continue it's winning ways. I'm not so sure about GCU. Just hope the stock doesn't start plummeting some day on the school. BTW, your HAVOCs constant chest pounding back patting of themselves and acting like the world revolves around them because of blurbs from different news outlets is annoying as hell, and thanks to their constant berating of NMSU and my city, I think they have accomplished and manipulated a lot of our fans into thinking it's a rivalry. Also, beating us two years in a row is commendable and also contributes to GCU's efforts to create a rivalry. Kudos to them. You are now our rival. NMSU Aggie fans hate you! Congrats.

Did we skip the serving of Festivus dinner & jump straight to Airing of Grievances? Most Aggie fans don't like GCU for any number of reasons. Some based in fact. Some not. No sense in trying to change minds. Nobody is here for that anyway. It is what it is.

I still struggle to fully embrace the "rival" narrative. GCU wouldn't be a rival to NMSU if we weren't a threat. NMSU wouldn't be a rival to GCU if they weren't at the top of the WAC. Neither would call/consider the other a rival if we ever ended up in different conferences.

At the end of the day, if each is pushing the other to be and become better on and away from the court, both schools win. Shoot, all WAC schools win. Better coaching, better players & better fan support from top to bottom of the conference is good for everyone.

As GCU vies for the ONE NCAA bid, rivalries will be formed. In the conference's current configuration, NMSU has only stubbed their toe against Bakersfield in the WAC tournament. So, NMSU fan's have some disdain toward their program.

Once ASU stops pretending GCU doesnt exist, then it can be a rivalry lmao. Right now Seattle U is the only WAC member with a Pac 12 rival

At this moment, Arizona has no problem competing with GCU on the court because GCU's existence doesn't effect their recruiting. Arizona recruits on a national level. GCU (and ASU) recruit more on a regional level.

However, ASU won't acknowledge GCU on the court. As GCU steels more local basketball talent and wins more games, ASU can't help to have a rivalry off the court with GCU (in the media and on recruiting trails). GCU is a thorn in the side to ASU.

I'm not sure you get to choose your rivial, IMO it Builds after two programs can compare success agaisnt each other for example, competeting for WAC Championships( something GCU hasn't accomplished yet), Attendance (Something GCU has accomplished) etc.
However, I do believe this could be great Rivialry since GCU has top notch budget and we are pretty successful despite not having a great market or Budget. If UNM and UA can have a Rivialry why shouldn't NMSU/GCU be a thing. Besides we are pretty close to each other, in fact we are in A bordering state to Arizona. Sort of feels natural to compete agaisnt y'all. "The Gadsen Purchase Showdown"

Well, Phoenix sit in the territory of the Mexican Cession of 1848. And, Las Cruces sits in the territory of the Texas Annexations of 1845, but close enough. Nevertheless, I think rivalry between NMSU and GCU can form now that GCU is NCAA tournament eligible and no longer unimpeded in recruiting. Let the Battle for the WAC begin.

GCU is 2-6 vs New Mexico State, so we really aren't a true rivalry yet. You guys have a far way to go before you even get to our level.

That was a dumb statement made by a misinformed reporter. The scholarships that they gave out during that game was just GCU was part of the string of scholarships that they were giving out to students at GCU, the only thing was that you had to be in the student section during that game. That's probably the reason the reporter thought that GCU pays us to show up. I know that I haven't received any discounts on my tuition and I missed one home game when we were in session. And our cost for all sporting events is covered in a mandatory athletics fee like any other school.

I saw ASU played GCU in Lacrosse, didn't they? They have to just drop that stupid ban. Everyone is playing GCU now. I don't think anyone should ban to play GCU because they are for profit. Play them Arizona State. They look foolish not playing them.
