[Bill Self] I know I complain about the Baseball Hall of Fame but...
Why is it that Bill Self was already elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame? He doesn't even have 700 wins yet (I realize many coaches don't but many coached before teams played so many games). Just one national title and all kinds of trouble in the Elite 8, where he's been taken out 7 times. As a matter of fact, he's only advanced to 2 Final Fours, lucking up when Memphis choked for his title. Little/No coaching experience in the pros or internationally.

Not that it matters, he was certainly on track and would have been in within a decade but it's a joke he got the call so soon. This in a class headlined by career underachiever Tracy McGrady and Rebecca Lobo, who didn't quite live up to the hype once she got to the WNBA.

Baseball is too strict Imo but you at least have to be clearly above and beyond good enough to get in, which we can't say for basketball.

The bar for the basketball hall of fame seems very low. So low that by the standards of who's already in, Self clears the bar easily and is more deserving than at least a dozen previous inductees. The problem isn't him, it's the low bar. The HOF is full of coaches who never won even one national championship.

Just look at this Wikipedia list of coaches in the basketball HOF. You'll have the same reaction I did, over and over: "That guy is in the hall of fame? Are you freakin' kiddin' me?"

Reminds me of some years ago when The Onion had the headline "Jim Rice inducted into Hall Of Adequacy"

Calipari lowered the bar. Once he got in with one NC and 2 vacated final fours, it kind of opened the door to everyone who's won one and doesn't cheat. There's a new one of those almost every year.

I don't know who the majority of those guys are, so, yeah.
