I understand Donaldson is a better catcher (though neither is good at throwing out runners), a good athlete, and is hitting well now. In fact, he's been on fire since the State game. But we are sitting him other game? And Bowen has been hitting ball well all season--average, power, can take some walks, hasn't been striking out a ton. I'm missing the strategy on how we are alternating them, and why doesn't Bowen DH if he's not catching?

JMO but a game takes a lot out of a catcher. Up and down throughout a three hour game and then running bases can wear you down when you catch several in a row. We are playing our 5th game in 8 days. Having a 1A and 1B is a great option for a coach. I'm not so sure it is strategic with pitchers as much as it is giving the guys another day to rest their legs.

RE: USM vs WKU baseball
Here's how WKU's starting pitcher for Saturday Kirkpatrick (Righthanded) has done in his 6 starts this year:

Valpo: 4.1, L, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 4 HBP, 71 pitches
Jacksonville St: 6.0, W, 3 ER (4 total), 9 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 106 pitches
Ohio: 8.1, L, 3 ER, 8 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 79 pitches
Illinois St: 5.2, no decision, 1 ER (4 total), 8 H, 7 K, 1 BB, 104 pitches
UAB: 7.2, L, 6 ER, 11 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 94 pitches
@ Middle Tenn: 4.0, no decision, 4 ER, 4 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4 HBP, 83 pitches

Season totals
1-3, 5.00 ERA, 6 appearances (all starts), 36 IP, 20 ER (24 total), 45 hits, 17 K, 2 BB, 9 HBP, .306 batting average allowed

My quick recap:
5 of his 6 starts have been at home, he's going to throw strikes due to only walking 2 batters on the season, his shortest 2 outings both involved 4 hit batters each game, he's not overpowering as he averages just under 3 Ks per game but he did have 1 start where he K'd 7, other 5 starts were 3 Ks or less, he's allowed 8 or more hits in 4 of his 6 starts which explains the .306 BA allowed. With warmer temps today (1:00 pm start, sunny, 62 degrees, minimal wind) we "should" have a pretty good day at the plate but as we know there's always an upcoming TTT moment.

Didn't realize Pawlowski was there.

If anyone remembers the 2004 Regional, his Charleston team put on an absolute clinic against one the best teams we have had. They basically served up the first game to us and then beat us like a drum in the elimination game. Bunted and executed us to death.

And just like that their pitcher strikes out the side in the first. 03-banghead

RE: USM vs WKU baseball
how many walks does wallner have now?

our 'awesome' website doesn't provide individual compiled stats....

I know it's quite a few....

too many stranded runners for the eagles....still 0-0 b3

I stand corrected....he now has 20....it's tagged as bb

Kirkpatrick through 5 innings today:
1 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 89 pitches
3 of the 4 Ks came in the 1st inning
Unless it's a quick inning this most likely will be his last inning

Edit...an 8 pitch top of the 6th means he'll probably be back got the 7th

once again, the boys started a tad shaky, but stayed focused on getting outs when needed and getting the runs after the first handful of innings...

Berry coaches another flawless game...

5-0 eagles...
