I Didn't see that one coming.

Doesn't surprise me. There just aren't a lot of home home opportunities within the region. From the Mountain time zone westward you only have three schools that are FBS that aren't in the MWC or Pac-12 (NMSU and UTEP who New Mexico regularly plays and BYU).

New Mexico is in better financial shape than most G5's but they can't buy FBS games so a newcomer makes perfect sense.

RE: Liberty schedules New Mexico Home and Home!
Really? I don't base my football watching on College Political or Religious views. It is America and they are allowed to hold whatever views they like. Just cause a team plays them doesn't mean the fans or school agrees with them. I have seem more intolerance come from the so called "Tolerant Left" than I have seen on the right. Maybe I am foolish but Tolerance does not require you must agree standard.

I can barely watch ESPN if it is not a live sporting event. I refuse to watch NBC halftime shows due to their insistence to bring politics into it. If I truly want to watch or talk politics, there is CSPAN, News Networks and other Social Media outlets. I prefer watching sports without worrying about who gets offended. If you really want to see one of the great Civil Rights leader and how he handled it, trying watching or reading a Bio on Vince Lombardi. Both the Right and Left could learn a whole lot from that man!

With the status of NMSU as a FB only member with the SBC, and with LU's overt entry into FBS and their need for FBS games, can you explain the "shocking announcement" mention?

The University of New Mexico scheduled Liberty, not New Mexico State University.
My error and am correcting my posts.

No problem. If it was New Mexico St that Liberty scheduled, I agree it wouldn't be shocking at all to see two independents scheduling each other. New Mexico scheduling a H&H with Liberty is a shocking move. Why would UNM schedule a game with a start up on the other side of the country? What's in it for them? It makes no sense whatsoever to me...

Something is going on with New Mexico. Look at their schedules over the past 15 years....They finished a H&H with Arizona St recently. They've played Texas Tech H&H many times throughout their history. H&H's with Mizzou, Baylor, Oregon St, Washington St, Arizona etc... i see that they bought a 1 and done with Louisiana Monroe last year...I wonder if they are getting home basketball and baseball games vs Liberty out of this?

It is odd since UNM has not had a problem putting a schedule together. Does not compute unless Liberty is throwing un"Godly" amounts of money out to have an fbs schedule.

I also am wondering how this happened. With LU's current AD coming from Baylor, does he have any contacts with UNM? Did LU sweeten the pot with a financial contribution or other concessions? It would almost have to be one or several of those factors. How does this benefit UNM without some equalizer?

Exactly. I see that UTEP and UNM are getting their football rivalry revived which is good. Century old rivals

I betting it's a million or more. That would be beneficial to both.

RE: Liberty schedules New Mexico Home and Home!
Looks the million dollar+ payday for NM from Liberty is part of the deal. Article from the Santa Fe New Mexican,

"The University of New Mexico football program will continue to dabble with competing against Power Five conference teams in the future. Among future games announced by the school Wednesday were games against the Southeastern Conference’s Texas A&M and the PAC-12’s UCLA. They were the highlights of future games for the Lobos, who also will play a home-and-home series against UTEP in 2021 and 2022 as well as a series against Liberty and Houston Baptist.
UNM heads to College Station, Texas, in September 2021 for a game that will pay the Lobos $1.1 million. The Aggies already have a game set with the Lobos this season Nov. 11. Four years later, UNM heads to Pasadena, Calif., for a game against the Bruins in the fabled Rose Bowl. The school will pocket $1.2 million for that.
The UNM-UTEP series is the second-longest rivalry for UNM (78 games), next to its yearly battles with New Mexico State (107). The Liberty series rounds out the Lobos’ 2018 and 2019 schedule, with the Flames coming to University Stadium next year and the Lovos travelling to Lynchberg, Va., in 2019.
Houston Baptist will take on New Mexico on Sept. 4, 2021, as the season opener for the Lobos."

Where does it say that Liberty is paying New Mexico??

If true, then shame on UNM. That money comes off the backs of "students" who are getting ripped off by a online diploma mill and/or seniors caught up in a televangelist fraud.

According to the FBSchedules article it is just a home and home with a $750,000 cancellation fee.

"According to a copy of the contract, the teams will not trade guarantees and there is a $750,000 penalty for breaching the agreement."

I saw that mention also but other than two expected wins, what would be the upside for NM to make the trip to Lynchburg?

RE: Liberty schedules New Mexico Home and Home!
The upside is that they don't have to pay Liberty a big sum for a single game in Albuquerque (only).

IE, they figured the total cost of traveling to Lynchburg (including lost revenue from what could've been a home game), was less than what it would've cost to get Liberty out there for just one guarantee game.

IE, they're cheap.

Maybe for a little east coast exposure? Nothing wrong with playing in a different part of the country for the players.

If I were one, I'd be demanding an explanation on what levels of discrimination I'd personally face to watch my team play. Seriously, can I wear my rainbow colored shirt? Can my Trans friend use the restroom consistent with her gender identity? What hotels, hospitals, and restaurants can I go to without being humiliated or refused service simply because I'm visible?

There are practical considerations involved here.

Holy hell dude. Do you make the same crazy conspiracies with BYU and Baylor as you do with Liberty? You would have no problem wearing your rainbow shirt or even bringing your rainbow flag to campus and games. We had other team fans bring them already this year and guess what no issue! They actually had support with a few students and faculty. Considering Liberty has LGBT/trans alumni who attend games and alumni events and had no issue, I highly doubt you'll encounter one unless you're seeking attention and I get that vibe you are one of those people. Lastly, when you have 3 different colleges in Lynchburg, I doubt you'll find discrimination 07-coffee3.

As for scheduling there is talk that Liberty has deals done with Air Force and West Point. An agreement with ODU in the future and are currently in talks with BYU.

Don't encourage Tom. He post's the same thing over and over on this topic. It's like he just cuts and pastes. He can voice his opinion like I can voice mine but it's best to ignore him. He has his mind made up already, doubtful it will ever change.

I could see ECU giving them a home/home. We recruit VA and they have a decent sized fanbase.
