RE: Corey Douglas leaving
I'm torn between frustration, and just not caring. To me, these guys are doing more to kill my interest in Rice basketball then they ever did to raise it. Thanks for leaving Rice essentially as you found Rice, Coach Rhoades.

Looks like everyone is using the same template with for their release statements.

Got to admit this one I didn't see coming. I would assume he will be somewhat limited to schools that originally recruited him. It's not like he got enough minutes to showcase himself.

Rice was his only offer out of high school. I bet he ends up at a MEAC or SWAC school.

Yeah. I was really hopeful with the Pera appointment we'd keep at least most of the core together. I guess that's still possible, but I can't say I'm hopeful.
Still want to give the new coach time to pull a rabbit out of his hat, though.

One thing I'd note is that the three guys who are transferring as underclassmen all transferred high schools for basketball reasons and were involved with "prep schools."
The other guys all played high school ball at public or private day schools. Don't know if it's a coincidence, but something to consider.

RE: Corey Douglas leaving
Anybody else having a little buyers remorse with Pera? Not that I think any of this is his fault, but I think the main draw of hiring him was keeping the team together. That isn't happening, so I wish we would've at least held interviews and done further due diligence rather than hiring him in 2 days. Maybe he would've turned out to have been the best candidate after a full interview process and it's a moot point, or maybe not. Would've liked to have seen it play out differently.
Can't totally fault our AD for handling it how he did, but wish we could have a do-over.

I wonder if Tudor has picked up the phone and asked Rhoades for his thoughts on the mass exodus?

I can see your point but how attractive would the program have been if all of the transfers announced they were leaving before we hired a coach?

Fair enough. Do we think Pera is as good as Rhoades? We hired Rhoades last go-round with zero players--he knew he would have to start from scratch. And we hadn't just shown that it is possible to win 23 games. Just would've liked to have seen who else was out there.

I think we have to assume he will be close. Rhoades had D3 HC experience which Pera doesn't have. Funny but to some here winning 23 games in year 3 wasn't that big of a deal or showing that much progress.

Great interview with Coach Pera on the "Chop Shop" which is a sports talk radio show geared to the African-American community here in Houston.
Talks very candidly about the university, and touches on recruiting breiefly. I missed the first part of it, but it will be archived on Facebook live at its completion so I'll go back and listen then.
