RE: Dylan Jones - incoming transfer to men's ?
Bishop Mency as a senior should be at least as good as the freshman Mency ....
Cashaw, Lott, Meyer, Adams, Harrison, Martin, Mency, (Quez?) ... that is better than the collective talent of Rhodes Year I
Does that imply you believe that next year we will be better than we were in Rhoades's first year?
That is not impossible if you believe Cashaw, Lott, and Meyer is stronger nucleus than Rhoades had.

We went three steps forward, Now we are taking two steps back, (still +1) but I think that three years from now, when pera is hired away, we will be ahead of where we were two weeks ago.

More like faith. If it truly is three up, two down, we will. If it is three up, all the way down, nope. But I will wait and see.

My analysis comparing the rosters. Please note that with Gearheart and Jackson, I am considering what we knew about them going into Rhoades's 1st season. Obviously both played great that year. But heading into the year, neither of them had done much of note at Rice. Additionally, I am putting some consideration into how prominent the players were as recruits. The list is in order of minutes played by the guys during Rhoades's 1st year, and I tried to compare them to similar players with similar playing experience.
Cashaw > Gearhart
Lott > M. Jackson
Adams = Guercy
Mency (Sr) > Mency (Fr)
Meyer > Drone (So)
Harrison > J. Jones
Martin Jr. > Peera
D. Jones = Green
Again, I'm not trying to ruffle feathers. Gearhart, Jackson, and Peera all took big steps forward in 2015-16. But heading into that season, we had no idea that any of them would be as good as they were. So it is entirely possible (maybe even likely) that Gearhart ended up playing better in 2015-16 than Cashaw will in 2017-18. But I don't think anyone would have predicted it heading into those respective seasons. Same with Jackson & Lott. We've already seen Cashaw and Lott (in particular) do some very impressive things. Harrison was a great recruit. Adams shot very well and has more size than Mency. So I agree that there is a lot more returning talent than what Rhoades had coming into his first season. Of course, the ultimate question is whether Coach Pera and staff can get the returning talent to exceed expectations (and how they fill the remaining scholarship spots).

Bishop Mency didn't play for Rice until Rhodes's second season, 2014-2015.

I think you mean Guercy.
