Dambrot has spent the last 13 years at Akron. He has over 300 wins during that time, including winning the last two regular season MAC titles, two of the last three MAC coach of the year awards and back-to-back runs to the MAC tournament title game. And he left for Duquesne......let that soak in.

I believe the Atlantic 10 usually is a 2-4 bid league every year. This year is 3. vcu and Dayton have been solid, so I would say the conference is a definite step up....however he went from the best is a so so league to the worst in a pretty good league

Likely more money, Losing two of the best players in the MAC ( Johnson, Cheatham ) Basketball school and conference. Also maybe he wanted a change or a challenge. Let's see if he can get them to top of Atlantic 10 in 4-5 yrs. everyone certainly would say he's a great coach. Another good MAC coach was Bobby Hurley. So far Hurley 15-17 (5-13)conference then 15-18 (7-11)conference at ASU.

Reports are 7 years for $7 million. Apparently his son plays soccer in Pittsburgh too. Monte is tied for 3rd longest MAC tenure.

That's simply an indictment of NIU's poor judgment.

I think he is saying that NIU poor judgement is Monte being 3rd longest tenure coach in the MAC.
I would agree since the only thing Monte has accomplished is year in and year out having "one of the youngest teams" in basketball.

Please read huskie1stdown's response above.
Or realize we're overpaying for a coach who's not even 1/3 as good as Dambrot.

He's now at an 1AAA school and does not have to share the spotlight with a football team. Bigger salary, bigger budget and in a league that gets mutliple Tourney Bids every year now. IMO they are the best non power hoops conference. VCU, URI, George Mason, Dayton, some quality programs. St Louis is in a downward spiral but their attendnace is solid.

RE: Dambrot
Dambrot's father played at Duquesne. His son transferred from Akron to Duquesne in one sport last year. I believe there's another family connection in there.

Dambrot had a lot of non-hoops/$ motivation to make this move. Kind of reminds me of Jamie Dixon ditching Pittsburgh for TCU.
