Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
Looks like Akron Men's Basketball Coach Keith Dambrot will be leaving the Zips for Duquesne.

Haven't seen anything official yet, but it's starting to look like a sure thing.

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
I'm guessing Duquesne committing to the $40 million renovation is what did it. The money seemed to be in the same ballpark that he turned down previously.

From the A10 board, a lot of people liked having the conference tournament in Pittsburgh. Guess it's a nice place.

Duquesne's NCAA appearances:

1940 (1-1)
1952 (1-1)
1969 (2-1)
1971 (0-1)
1977 (0-1)

tradition.

That is better than Akron's.

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
So long Keith. One of those things where maybe it was just time. He always had Zips playing at the top of the league and I think some of his best teams didn't make the NCAA tournament. But making the tourney out of the MAC is a hard gig. The bar is low at Duquesne and if he gets them even middle of the pack, he'll get offers elsewhere. Maybe Gary Waters can take a third shot at NE Ohio?

Dambrot will be 59 by the start of next season. I don't see larger programs going after a 62 or 63 year old coach. He'll finish his career at Duquesne.

The local paper in Kent has a rumor of Rob Senderhoff being in the running for the Dayton job, replacing Archie Miller. Herosports.com also reports it

Dayton was first in the Atlantic 10 this year, and Duquense was last.

Currently, Tavian Dunn-Martin, Mike Hughes and Ty Dalton have all expressed that they are following KD. Out of those three, Hughes is the only huge loss.

Akron it sounds like was ready to match....Keith was just bored of a program he couldn't build up any further.

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
its rich to see Dambrot point to the MAC's lack of at-large bids as a deciding factor in leaving Akron when he scheduled a cup cake OOC every year to protect his 20 wins/yr streak. Also, maybe don't lose 6 of 9 MACC games if you really want to dance.

Blessed to receive my first Division 1 offer from The University of Akron #GoZips ⚜️

Blessed to receive my 2nd Division 1 offer from Duquesne University ???

Those two announcements came just 14 minutes apart. That's some PJ Fleck level recruiting right there.

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
This is just weird all the way around. Dambrot is from Akron, went to Akron, and was an assistant there before spending a decade as their coach. If Akron was willing to match the money, is being an hour or so closer to his son for a year enough motivation to leave? That is, unless he just feels like taking over a bad program and rebuilding them out of boredom, like when I'd take over EMU or New Mexico State when they were really bad on NCAA Football just so I could win the Rose Bowl with them. But this isn't NCAA Basketball, and nor is Dambrot going to make Duquesne into the next Dayton.

There is an opening in the MVC.

MVC should add FBS football and take 9 MAC programs that care about basketball.

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
What was looking to be a weak MAC next year is going to be even weaker. Not enough MAC schools invest in basketball. Ohio and Akron were #122 & #123 in basketball budgets for the year 2015-2016, each spending ~3.1 million. The next highest was #162 BGSU who spent 2.4 million. CMU had the lowest budget at $1.65 million which placed them at #240 and was roughly half of what Akron and Ohio spent.

leaving the MAC for Dewkesney says nothing about the MAC and everything about Keith "whoa is me" Dambrot.
