#RiceRising ??? Or perhaps #RiceFalling ???
Tired of the rollercoaster.
Bad news - football sucks!
Good news - men's basketball and women's basketball take good steps forward!
Bad news - baseball sucks!
Bad news - Rhoades leaving!
Good news - Pera hired!
Good news - Women's basketball wins WBI!
Bad news - Marcus & Marcus leaving!
I would prefer sustained good news.

Good news: Women and Men Tennis are top 25 programs and I would say the premier sports at Rice now. (03-27-2017 01:30 PM)mrbig Wrote: #RiceRising ??? Or perhaps #RiceFalling ???

Most undergraduates, on receiving their diploma, move on. Getting upset when an undergrad who is also an athlete does that is a double standard, isn't it?

To be clear, my comment was more general and not directed toward Marcus Jackson (despite the post appearing in this thread). I'm 100% with you. He came here and got his degree. That is 100% OK with me. My comment was really more geared toward Evans transferring and Houston Owl's comment in the Marcus Evans thread that there were rumors of other guys considering tranfer as well.
Congrats to Marcus Jackson on a fine career at Rice.

To be clear in return I wasn't directing my comment at you, it just seemed like a good thread to drop it into, but it was spurred by remarks both about Jackson and Egor that I've seen on a few threads.

To be clear, we probably shouldn't spend the next 50 posts clarifying our previous coments. That said, I appreciate your clarification to my clarification!

RE: Marcus Jackson Going As A Grad Student Transfer
As I said in the women's WBI Championship thread, he and his girlfriend were at the women's game yesterday cheering for the Lady Owls. I believe him when he says he'll be a Rice Owl for life. He and Seth Gearhart really held the team together his sophomore season after Braun quit and I think both deserve a ton of credit for this year's success.
That said, I wonder where he can transfer to? I don't think he would play much for a Power 5 conference school. He can certainly start for a school similar to Rice, but I'm not really sure why he would want to transfer to a similar program unless perhaps it's closer to home and they offer a graduate program in the field he's looking for.

I understand that Marcus J. made a statement that he had really only been home for 20 days during the last four years. He has always been around Rice during the summers and holidays for various reasons.
I hope he finds a place close to home and enjoys his final season of college basketball...He's earned it.

Given the '20 days' comment, my money is on him going to somewhere in California.

No reason he couldn't come off the bench as a shooter at a place like Cal. He certainly wouldn't get 30 minutes a game at a power school, but he could carve out a role if he can get his 3pt% back up near 40+%.

RE: Marcus Jackson Going As A Grad Student Transfer
I think the team will miss Marcus Jackson and his maturity and leadership. He understood his role on the team and worked hard, doing what needed to be done. He was the team's best FT shooter and a 3rd scoring option this year who did not force the action or inappropriately push his role. His minutes diminished a little as the bench guards continued to mature and require playing time. We should be thankful that he came to Rice, stayed thru a change in coaches and miserable transfer situation that devastated the roster when he was a freshman, worked thru a knee injury and is getting his degree in 4 years. I would love to have 12 Marcus Jackson's on my team.

Absolutely agree. I would argue that a team full of Marcus Jackson's would be a bit repetitive though. Can we mix in a few Tamir Jacksons as well? And don't limit it to those two, there have been a lot of players that stay at Rice all 4 years, rather than use Rice for self-promotion. I'm sure many of the current players will end up staying. I want more of those guys.

I agree with the preceding comments from Kayjay, Big and Tiki. All I would add is it would be nice if some of those types were from the greater Houston area.

rather than use Rice for self-promotion.
Don't the regular students use Rice for self-promotion too? "A degree from Rice ...." is a phrase often used. Or a med school applicant from Rice is better....
Just playing devil's advocate here.
