Quote:In 2005, Mr Manafort proposed a confidential strategy to influence politics, business and news coverage in the US and across Europe amid worsening relations between George W Bush’s government and Russia.

“We are now of the belief that this model can greatly benefit the Putin Government if employed at the correct levels with the appropriate commitment to success,” Mr Manafort reportedly wrote in a memo to Oleg Deripaska, a close ally of the Russian president and aluminium magnate.

He added that the effort “will be offering a great service that can re-focus, both internally and externally, the policies of the Putin government.”

Mr Manafort signed a $10m (£8m) annual contract with Mr Deripaska’s firm beginning in 2006, business records obtained by the Associated Press, and the pair reportedly maintained a business relationship until at least 2009.

But you're right...I'm sure Russia just paid him a bunch of money to do nothing. 03-wink

I wonder who was paid more? Manafort or John Podestas family?

Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, has confirmed that it hired the consultancy of Tony Podesta, the elder brother of John Podesta who chaired Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, for lobbying its interests in the United States and proactively seeking the removal of various Obama-era sanctions, the press service of the Russian institution told TASS on Thursday.

Sberbank was featured heavily in the Clinton Cash book as the bank that helped arrange the purchase of Uranium One.

THIS is what you got? That the guy was a contract worker for some firm over a decade ago and was basically doing PR planning for them? EL O EL. These guys take this kind of work all the time, and always have.

Hell, my own Dad traveled the world doing his thing, one of my best friends Dad does ALL his work over in Belgium. This somehow makes him a skeery double-agent or something? He must be omniscient as well, he knew in '05-'06 that one day Trump would, astonishingly, decide to run for President and he'd be asked to help run the campaign. Dudes freaking amazing, no wonder folks pay him the big bucks.

I thought at least you had something regarding THE ROOSKIES!!! supposedly sneaking and releasing the dummy dnc emails.

What hypocrisy? Clinton Cash was a garbage hit job and Podesta's brother, not John, ran the Russia stuff.

If John P. was involved at all, then he's no better than Manafort.

Now when are you going to stop pretending like Manafort taking millions from Russia was no big deal when he was later on running Trump's campaign? Did Trump not vet him??? You would never say oh well if this was Hillary and your Podesta attack affirms that.

I never defended either Manafort or Podesta. You and the left are the ones having a cow now over things that happened over a decade ago. The Podesta situation was in 2016 during the campaign, and directly tied to easing sanctions against Russia.

Well, what would you call it then?

Lobbying? Psssst! DeeCee is over run with lobbyists, they're like rats.

Or better, skeery "influence peddling"? That has nice, ominous sound to it, or said another way- PR.

I doubt the intelligence community would be concerned about what Manafort did a decade ago unless it was relevant to what is happening now.
