Welcome to the Big 10 PJ
Guess PJ Fleck found out that when Michigan comes calling for your recruits, it doesn't matter how elite Minnesota is. Jalen Mayfield has decommitted from Minnesota after an offer from Go Blue.

Saw that coming a mile away.
I would bet a lot of money that Fleck's Gopher recruiting classes never come close to the top tier B1G classes: Michigan/Ohio State/Penn State/Wisconsin

I think he can get there after a few years. He is going to have to win I think at Minnesota before he gets top tier recruits.Their facility upgrades are going to be top notch. He does have that DT that had like 30 offers.
I do think he is going to struggle some at first. His brashness I am sure has caught the attention of the Urban Meyer's and Jim Harbaugh's of this world. I'm sure they will do all they can to stomp his flame out.

One thing's for sure, the recruiting battles between Fleck and Harbaugh are going to be pure entertainment.

The difference is other MAC schools didn't have the resources to put an opposing coach in the corner if they felt threatened. Michigan and Ohio State can. Minnesota is a tough place to recruit to period. Getting Minnesota in the top 5 every year in the big ten is a success for PJ.

MAC institutions, in general, also tend to have higher ethical standards than Pig10 and P5 schools.

RE: Welcome to the Big 10 PJ
Slightly off topic and didn't want to start a whole new thread on this. But I'm amused at the opening post of a long thread on Gopherhole right now:
Quote:Can we please stop with the damn Claeys vs Fleck pissing matches in every thread. Claeys is gone and Fleck is here. I love what Claeys/Kill built and was very disappointed that Claeys was let go, but it's time to move forward with the new regime.
That brings back some memories.

Unfortunately, that won't get you to the Cotton Bowl, or any other big time bowl.

If he can challenge for the B1G west maybe 3 out of 5 years he will be offered a higher profile job. If he fails to do so everyone will say he inherited a mess, what do you expect from Gophers football? It's really a win-win for him because he has built in excuses. IMO he has to get to 8 or 9 wins to be considered somewhat successful. Tough but attainable.

RE: Welcome to the Big 10 PJ
i haven't looked specifically at Minnesota's upcoming class but saw this latest 247sports commit tonight. Fleck beat out Pedophile St, Wisc, Cinci, Kentucky and Western for a 3* WR out of Ohio. Same MO as here, gets out to fast start on rectruiting trail, 9 commits all are 3*s. only 5 schools have more at this stage. http://247sports.com/Player/Jornell-Manns-94046
