Really impressive 2nd half by the women, especially on the defensive end. They were down 8 at half but never panicked and out-scored UNC-Greensboro 44-24 in the 2nd half. I feel badly for Shani Rainey though who got hurt on a freak play while going for a rebound. Looking at the replay it appears her knee just gave way and I suspect she's pretty hurt because she didn't come back to participate in the post-game ceremony (at least she wasn't there by the time I left). Rainey's play in the 3rd quarter really brought us back into the game.

Hopefully the women's effort will inspire the guys to stick around and maybe earn a banner and ring of their own next year. I know Marcus Jackson was in the stands for the whole game cheering on the ladies.

Actually I see a video now from Adam Coleman of Rainey getting to cut down part of the net (she's in tears but she's able to support herself on the ladder so that's great news).

Coach Langley went into the locker room to get Rainey. She came out on crutches.

We thought they might wheel her out in a wheelchair, but no. The young lady toughed it out. After the net cutting, all the photogs got the.Rice team back together and retook their photos. Rainey was dead center, on crutches with the remains of the net over her shoulder.

I'd imagine we see that photo soon.

Great to hear. I had left by then (right after the award ceremony).

Maya was just incredible the entire tournament-seems just decided that they were going to win. Lexey had the best game I've seen her play.

Next year could be a big year for both hoops teams, could be better than 04-05, which IMHO was the best combined year....

Very impressive season for the ladies. They improved steadily as the season progressed. The last 10 days they really caught fire.

So the Rice women may be the only NCAA basketball champs from the state of Texas after Baylor lost in both men's and women's basketball games this weekend. But TAMU-CC is in the CIT semifinals so let's see if Willis Wilson can pull off the title in that tournament.

BTW, congrats to ex-Sam Houston State women's coach Vic Schaefer for coaching Mississippi State to the overtime win over Baylor. They had a 5-5 girl score 41 in that game.

Congratulations to the Lady Owls on a terrific season. I'm ashamed to admit that it was the first women's basketball game I've ever attended. But I will definitely be back.

Coach Langley and her staff did an amazing job yesterday of making halftime adjustments. The team was getting frustrated and looking overmatched by the UNCG zone defense in the second quarter. But after the half it was a totally different ball game.

We need to award her program by doubling season tickets for WBB. They are not expensive and WBB deserves it.

I have 3 observations about the women's program.
1. We have a very good coach.
2. The ladies are fun to watch.
3. There are some great character ladies on the team.

There are others, but these 3 stick out.
