Ball State is the MAC’s most MAC team
Quote:In 1929, sociologists Robert and Helen Lynd published Middletown: A Study in Modern American Culture, an enduring work that was designed to study your average small American city over a long period. They chose Muncie, Indiana.

This made sense for any number of economic or demographic reasons. It also shows writers’ inclinations toward looking at the Midwest as “real” America isn’t a recent construct.

It’s also kind of funny to think about because if you were looking to study the most run-of-the-mill MAC football program, you would look toward the one housed in Muncie.

Ball State fits every MAC personality trait you can think of.

I took one Sociology class in undergrad and we did a semester long case study on Muncie for this very reason. Fascinating stuff. I've never been, but if it's good enough for Garfield and Odie, it can't be all that bad.

Dear mufanatehc and Redbird Ray,
Did that study of 1929 mention that the State of Indiana had more Ku Klux Klan members then many Southern States during the twenties, and did that have any impact on their conclusions?
