#7 Oklahoma State vs. #11 Memphis - 2013
That's fine, but one game does not make the man. He left. He left another school. Good kid, but...
Diss this Memphis kid all you want. But I think he was in the process of 'making'. He was just a freshman, if I recall correctly--first time in front of the camera.
He had tons of heart. He wanted to come back home. And it's not like we couldn't have used an experienced player.
The end.
Nobody said he wanted to come home
Tubby is tight with Avery
There is a reason Memphis showed no interest

He's at the level he needs to be
Is it better to leave a roster unfilled and unproductive or filled with someone of King's caliber and productivity?
I consider you an authoritative source. Thanks.
We need bodies
That's on the staff
This roster as it is will not be good
I hope we're both wrong... But, I'm not planning on it.

All I know is he produced decent numbers and has DI experience.
We have a lack of both on the roster.
Therefore, they need to have better players signing in the late period to make up for it.
I care, to the extent that the relative expectation for him at this stage in his career would be about being a 10 and 7 guy.
Memphis could use a 10 and 7 guy.
The problem is people remember Nick as a sophomore when he was a 7 and 5 guy and bemoan he was a bust. However, similar players slotted around him see similar numbers after their second year.
Unless his illness severely hampered an ability to function, I can't, at this point, understand why Tubby would pass on (at worst) a 7 and 5 guy and (at best) a 12 and 7 guy who WANTS to come home.
I don't understand your projections when he was a 3 and 3 guy on a average team before he sat out and to cherry pick KJ was 44th.
But honestly I think Tubby has in his mind what his type of player is. Nick has a hard time defending...Maybe that is what Tubby is looking for, who knows at this point.
Seriously, he played 7 games and apparently was ill at some point during the process. He lost 15 pounds in 7 days. Johnson had just moved him into the starting lineup in games 6 and 7.
Cherry pick what? I looked at a guy in Nick's class who was right ahead of him.
I assume you mean KJ?
I still stand by the statements:
Most guys in the 40's will not be lottery picks. Most won't play in the NBA. Most will grow to be about 13 point guys as seniors. Most doesn't mean all.
I like Nick...But he is going to be no more than a role player on most good teams.
He cannot shoot, He is undersized for the 4, can't guard on the perimeter but the dude will outwork almost anyone else you put on the floor.
So do we have to qualify that statement as to whether MTSU is a "good" team?

Memphis is #140 in KenPom.
MTSU is #88.
Seems to be more than a role player on a team much better than Memphis.

Easterwood is always wrong about this stuff.
He said Tubby can coach.
LOL.

And Memphis is not a good team...Neither is MTSU.
Alabama appears to be a good team and he left because he wasn't going to get time. I don't buy he was so sick he couldn't return last year...He didn't return to be able to get a med. Redshirt as he felt it wasn't worth him wasting a year playing minimal minutes.
Apart from that Nick does seem to be outperforming his past but that doesn't change the past. No prognosticator would have picked nick to score 20+ shoot 60% from the floor and 50% from the 3 and 90+% from the line (WOW) based on his past.
