Exciting read until you get to the last two paragraphs.

Signing day is important for all programs. Still, I prefer having good news now, than no news or just a little news.

I thought of something one of my compadres said many moons ago ---- the law firm I was with was undergoing "reduction", and my compadre and myself had a subtask from the head honcho partner of the section to rate and assess the 1st years to the 6th years for that reduction. Word somehow leaked out into the section that my compadre and myself were engaged in this; and during drinks I mentioned to my compadre how much quicker the turnaround time came in getting the junior associate's work product back to us.

My compadre remarked: Work quality and turnaround time rises at an astonishingly fast rate and to much higher levels during times like this.

Kudos to Bailiff for the passel of recruits in the last couple of days. But, as I alluded to in the story above, perhaps the spectre of the last year ticking out on that contract has lit a fire with DB.

I am somewhat astonished he is still at Rice; given that after the beginning of summer workouts I cannot fathom at all how the FB staff could recruit *anybody* given the "up in the airness" of his contract.

Being recruited by DB without the contract going forward strikes me akin to being offered a job at Bear Stearns in October 2008....

But I guess having contracts ticking out with head coaches of two of the three major men's sports with no seeming plan forward, even for recruiting purposes, seems de riguer now for the AD office at this point.

We also had a shakeup in the coaching assistants. Maybe that also contributed positively to recruiting?

Wild speculation: Bailiff will retire after this year, Stewart (who has an extraordinary resume for DC under these circumstances) will be named HC, and the recruits know it.

Huh... that's actually reasonable and I think I like it.

I don't think so.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
Someone tell me about the early signing period that's new this year. I'm hearing about it, but don't know the specifics. When is it? If a player signs early, is he off limits from further recruitment? What date is early signing?
We're doing well. I think players like the new coaches and the EZF too. Who wouldn't want to play under an NFL- caliber DC and an incredible QB coach? I'd hate to see any of these players stolen in the coming months.

The early signing period is Dec 20 through Dec 22. If signed, the signer cannot be recruited or approached by others. That applies to any signing, including those in the early period.

Btw, google *is* your friend.....

Thanks. I thought it would be more informative to tackle the topic here. Others may not know much about it either. I hope there's a penalty if recruits opt out of their "early" signing of a letter of intent.

Less than a month as a Rice recruit. Any players in the Bailiff era decommit any faster?

Every year this happens so I am not that excited about the recruiting. These players only use Rice.
