"Exceptionally rude" used to mean jumped in the locker room and given a swirly, but whatevs.

Sounds appropriate... I'm sure the teacher oculd have taught the kid about being respectful of others but standing with his hands folded... But what they did crossed the line.

An agent of the government can't order students to recote required political speech. Rights don't stop at the schoolhouse door.

Allowances are made for legit educational purposes, but its hard to see how reciting the pledge would qualify.

Super surprised to see the kid's name is something like Shemar, that his mom has a different last name than him and that this happened in Chicagoland......

I mean it is his right not to stand and he didn't need to get any attention about it, and calling the pledge sacred is kinda scary...

Even though I am not a big fan of the Pledge...I stand for it simply because it is just not a big deal to me.

Allegiance requires reciprocity. For me to pledge allegiance to the State would mean that the State has an obligation to protect me. It of course does not have that obligation and physically cant protect me. The entire thing is an empty bunch of words dreamed up by a Socialist flag maker. It makes people feel good and instills a level of national pride in folks. That is fine by me.

That being said...The kid engaged in poor form of civil disobedience and the teacher was also out of line. Im would not have fired him for this though.

Or, just to be respectful to others. When I attended hockey games in Buffalo, where both National Anthems are played, I stood quietly with my hands folded out of respect to the Canadians who came to the game.

I always stand for both and participate in both anthems, simply because I think the Canadian Anthem is beautiful.
