Yes, interesting. And to clarify, that's *not* the percentages of the DI players who come from each state (although there's bound to be some correlation). It's what your chances are of being recruited by a DI school if you live in each state.

Right. Exactly what I said. D1 players as percentage of high school players.

If you take Pennsylvania just for an illustration: The number is 1%. That means there are 20 teams worth of boys high school starters (100 kids) for each one player who will be a D1 recruit. Or more precisely, if you assume 15 players per program, then there's about one D1 recruit per conference or district level.

In neighboring Maryland that number is 5%. It only takes four teams of starters to produce one D1 recruit. A local league of 8 teams would have about four D1 prospects.

It gets harder to guess, since we don't know how many are seniors. It would also be interesting to see county-level stats for Tennessee.

Not to nit-pick *too* much, but they're not exactly the same thing. They're likely very close, though.

To use one of your examples, let's take PA. (1.0%) What that means is if you're a h.s. player in PA, there's a 1% chance you're being recruited, or going to be recruited, by a DI program. And that is *not* exactly the same thing as saying that 1% of DI players come from PA. There would be slippage, non-qualifications, decisions to go to juco, etc. But it would likely be very close.

Now.....I derive my interpretation directly from the exact verbiage of the title of the graph/map.
