Seems like a contract doesn't mean much. Just ask Rhoades. (03-23-2017 04:35 PM)Scooter Wrote: 5-year contract

However, getting a coach that can build and sustain for several years far outweighs the loss of a few players. I'd have preferred that Karlgaard take enough time to at least interview a couple other coaches that could be a good fit.
That said, it looks like Pera is an excellent choice and should be able to start out with a great group of players.
Worth noting that on the video showing the team's reaction to the news, Karlgaard says "We've spent a lot of time, a lot of energy in the last 48 hours talking to various people. ... We've interviewed some really good coaches, but I'm excited today to announce that your next head coach is Scott Pera."

@RiceAthletics says @JHarden13 will attend news conf Saturday to introduce @RiceCoachPera as coach of @RiceBasketball.
Maybe James Harden will be announcing he will be enrolling at Rice for his final two years of college eligibility?
