RE: Heritage Hall
Hate to sound bad here, but who cares? I wish we had more of the old buildings on East Campus built again, like we did with East hall, as it is a beautiful building, and keeps with the look of the old building it replaced, but the fact remains that the area looks great. I would have rather we maintained those original buildings the last 50-60 years, and that east campus looked now what it looked like 60 years ago. That was always the best looking area of WMU, and such a traditional feel. Could put it on any Ivy League schools campus. But we didn't take care of it. We made the best of the situation, and it still is such a pretty space.

I hope we add buildings to East Campus, and when we do that they be replicas of the buildings that were torn down. Students should attend classes at East Campus again one day. If that happens I could care less if we are on this list of historical landmarks.

Good post!

I agree.

Generations ago, WMU made an irresponsible mistake by abandoning East Campus to construct a series of buildings worthy of mid-century Eastern Europe on West Campus. I understand the need for more space, but the old buildings should have been maintained and used, not left to rot.

By the time the President Dunn, and current WMU officials, arrived it was too late (far too much $) to do anything more than was was done. I'm pleased we were able to salvage what we could of East Hall. It would have been a irresponsible use of scarce resources to save anything more. There was too much damage and neglect to overcome as a result of poor decisions made by previous WMU leaders.

East Hall (Heritage Hall) is a jewel today. The East Campus area is beautiful. We could not say that 10 years ago.

And Waldo Stadium is regularly ranked as one of the MAC's finest venues.

President Haenicke pushed shutting down the East Campus. It was not one of his better decisions. By the time the defenders of EC convinced him to preserve it the damage had been done to a great extent.

I need to see Heritage Hall next time I'm on campus.

You will love the new East (Heritage) Hall.

Haenicke, overall, was a decent president at WMU. However, this decision, and his "WTF?" decision to fire Al Mode set WMU back. It took 28 years to finally win another MAC football championship as a result of that decision. And it took several generations, and millions of $, to remove the eye-sores Haenicke helped create on East Campus.

Spent '96-2001 in North hall. That was the home of Industrial Design. East campus had character, it was a big part of the heritage of the University. You can't get that back.

RE: Heritage Hall
I was driving around campus for my new job for training and noticed a whole lot of changes that I had not noticed because I would stay on Stadium Drive or head west on Michigan Avenue off of Howard in my previous jobs. I love the growth, but would have loved to see the new buildings look somewhat like the old brick buildings.
