MAC Apparel Deals
Ohio is ecstatic about its new deal with Adidas. Previous one with Russell only paid the school 400,000 per year.

Is anyone else getting a new apparel deal?

Quote:About adidas

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ...

Emily Deering, Student Senate Athletics Representative, Cross Country Student-Athlete
"The Bobcats are beyond excited to be represented by adidas! Most of the athletes are familiar with the brand and trust them to provide quality athletic gear. I hope the MAC is ready for a revamped green and white!"

Frank Solich, Football Head Coach
"We're excited to have adidas as a partner as I’ve heard many good things about them from my counterparts throughout college football. We appreciate the long-term commitment they've made to Ohio, not only for football, but for all of our sports. Their equipment is top notch and something our players will be excited to wear on campus, at practice and in competition.

Saul Phillips, Men’s Basketball Head Coach
“This announcement is exciting for Ohio Basketball as I believe the association with adidas will help us continue to build our national brand and that in turn will assist us in recruiting. The shoes, apparel and equipment are excellent and the team and coaches are excited to wear them proudly.”

Bob Boldon, Women’s Basketball Head Coach
“I want to thank adidas for their interest in Ohio and for their commitment to partnering with us to build our programs and provide a positive experience for our student-athletes. The adidas brand is highly respected in our game and we look forward to working with them to continue to grow Ohio women’s basketball.”

Deane Webb, Volleyball Head Coach
“adidas is the partner to several premier level volleyball programs and we are excited to join that group. The brand is strong, the equipment is excellent and the uniforms and apparel are made to help our student-athletes excel. I’m looking forward to a great partnership with adidas.”

Amy Dean, Deputy Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator
“We are looking forward to this partnership and I’m excited about the positive impact that it will have on all of our sports programs. We’re also excited about how this relationship will benefit the entire Athens campus as adidas will extend their preferred vendor pricing to all campus departments. This collaboration is a win-win for all involved.”

Michael Stephens, Sr. Associate Athletic Director - External
“The partnership with adidas is an important part of our strategic plan for brand growth over the next eight years. The association with adidas paired with the increased exposure we are receiving through our ESPN3 broadcasts will help elevate our already strong national brand. We look forward to working with adidas, Ohio University campus communications and our Bobcat retailers to maximize this exciting partnership.”

Matt Morton, Assistant Athletic Director – Equipment Services
“adidas is known throughout the equipment world as a great company to have as your official on-field provider. I look forward to working with them to outfit our student-athletes in premier apparel and footwear that will give them the best opportunity to be successful in competition.”

Unless I'm missing something, it doesn't look like Ohio is getting paid. They are being given free apparel.

RE: MAC Apparel Deals
Akron's basketball program probably has one of the best mid-major apparel deals. They are 1 of 4 LBJ programs(Other 3 are Kentucky, Ohio State, and Miami (FL). The deal expires this August and I can't imagine Nike won't renew. The rest of the school is adidas. I'm not sure what all they currently receive in that deal and don't know when it expires.

UT had been under armor, but basketball was Nike. Now entire university is Nike, not sure about financials.

GEAR, not MONEY.

there's this quote from the Post article that I found surprising-

"Previously, Ohio has been the only program in the Mid-American Conference to be paid to wear athletic uniforms, while other schools have paid for supplied clothing and equipment."

more detail from Jason Arkley of the Athens Messenger, via twitter-

"Under deal with Russell, Ohio received about $400K per year in gear. Still had to spend $200K per year to augment it (shoes, ect), New deal: Ohio pledges $200K in business per year to Adidas, which unlocks up to $600K/year in gear (truly all inclusive)."

So it sounds like Ohio gets $600K in free gear after they spend $200K, or a net $400K in the positive. No idea how this compares to other MAC deals, I'm just happy to be leaving Russell.
