RE: 2017/18 mens basketball
Allen Moff from the Record Courier also posted the following on 26Oct.

Kent State junior guard Kain Harris suffered a knee injury during the first week of preseason practice, and was scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday. The 6-foot-4 Chicago native averaged 9.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 33 games as a sophomore at Tulane. He was not eligible to play for KSU this season per NCAA transfer rules, but is now facing six to nine months of rehab following surgery. ... Jimmy Hall, a First Team All-MAC forward for the past three years at Kent State, has been working out with the team while mulling professional options. Hall originally committed to play professionally in France this season, but decided to explore other opportunities.

Hopefully, Kain has a speedy, and full recovery.

Ryan Bernstein 6'0" 180 lb Junior PG. Played the last two years at Maine so I assume he's sitting out. Looks like he played alot for Maine (17.9 mpg then 26.8 mpg). Not much to speak of in the way of stats from those minutes though.

Chris Johnson 6'6" 207 lb Sophomore F. He's from Chicago and played at Malone last year. Didn't play much (8.5 mpg). The only notable stat I saw was 3.0 rebounds per game. That's a pretty good rebounding rate. I assume he has to sit out too. Not sure what the rule is when transferring from a lower division.

PJ Grant 6'3" 188 lb Junior G. Played at Alderson Broaddus University. He only played 6 games and a total of 19 minutes there. Their site has conflicting information if those 6 games were last year or the year before so no idea on if he'll be can play this year. Interesting Grant played his HS ball at Kent Roosevelt.

Good chance these are all essentially practice squad players. Hopefully we'll blow some teams out and give them a couple minutes of fame. Looks like Tanner Castora, the redshirt walk-on from last year isn't around this year.

Bernstein was the starting point guard at Maine, but Maine finished 7-25 for the year, so I don't know if that means much. The starting point guard for Maine in 2012-2013 was Xavier Pollard and he did OK here, but Pollard also scored 14.9ppg at Maine vs 4.2 for Bernstein.
