2. We don't let women kill their offspring. Offspring are already born.
3. If we know people (including officers) are innocent, we don't prosecute them. That's what the trial determines...you know...the thing our Laws and Constitution spell out?
4. And no, Christians are not the only thing we persecute...and certainly not to the level we do Muslims.
5. Nobody accepts the barbarity of anything done in the name of Islam. And that's not even a thing in America anyway!
6. No...we're not really overtaxed. Obama and the democrats signed a pretty big tax cut bill at the start of his first term. Sure, the rich paid a little more, but most of the rest of us got a tax cut.
7. And to put all this nonsense on Democrats is ridiculous. Other than having the WH, the R's have had full control of the congress for several years now.
This is why democrats have suffered historic loses over 8 years

We are not overtaxed in total. Our government takes the smallest, or very close to the smallest, total tax bite out of the economy of any developed nation.

But, and it's a huge but...

Compared to those same other developed countries, we take a bigger tax bite out of the "rich"--and corporations--than they do. Our top tax rates are higher than most other developed countries for the "rich"--and absolutely the highest for corporations. The "rich" pay a larger percentage of the total tax burden here than in other developed countries. This is good political rhetoric--I'll give you bigger handouts and make somebody else pay for it, specifically the greedy "rich" and those hated corporations.

Whether it is good economic policy is another matter. The "rich" and corporations get to respond to those tax policies--and they do, by moving investment and jobs overseas to be taxed at lower rates on the income produced. Yes, we lose some jobs overseas to sweat shops with minimum pay and few, if any, health, safety, and environmental regulations. But those are not the jobs we want to keep. Sewing up Nikes is not our future--or at least I hope not. What really hurts is that we are also losing plenty of good, high-paying jobs--the kind we want to keep--to countries where pay and regulations are close to ours. It's those jobs that we need to figure out how to keep.

If you want support, check out the OECD tax tables--you can google them very quickly--and you can see all the comparative tax information laid out there. If you want support for the proposition that jobs are going overseas, try paying attention to the nightly news.

great post!

I personally don't care if the 'sweat' comes from "shops", infrastructure maintenance, et al....the bottom line is we have to get back to a maintenance/manufacture economy to ensure the USD remains the number one global factor....

we already have the tech development/service sectors locked up.....

relieving the tax burdens can only benefit the whole relative to job creation....the main problem is changing decades of failed policy that created two generations of bafoons....

1. No one lets illegals in. They come here...illegally.

So if we don't deport them out, we're condoning illegal behavior, correct? That sounds like it's just a matter of semantics.

Quote:2. We don't let women kill their offspring. Offspring are already born.

If you believe life begins at conception, then yes they do..

Quote:3. If we know people (including officers) are innocent, we don't prosecute them. That's what the trial determines...you know...the thing our Laws and Constitution spell out?

Uhm.. four officers in Baltimore would argue otherwise right about now. The facts basically said "not guilty of anything", but a certain DA tried to prosecute them anyway.

Quote:4. And no, Christians are not the only thing we persecute...and certainly not to the level we do Muslims.

We persecute Muslims here? When did we start doing that?

Quote:5. Nobody accepts the barbarity of anything done in the name of Islam. And that's not even a thing in America anyway!

And as for accepting.. oh yes, they do.. Otherwise, you wouldn't have people who have spoken up in favor of some of the barbaric things in Islam LEADING things like "women's marches".

Quote:6. No...we're not really overtaxed. Obama and the democrats signed a pretty big tax cut bill at the start of his first term. Sure, the rich paid a little more, but most of the rest of us got a tax cut.

You can debate this one... personal taxes.. down for the most part. Business taxes? Uhm.. hell yes we are overtaxed.

Quote:7. And to put all this nonsense on Democrats is ridiculous. Other than having the WH, the R's have had full control of the congress for several years now.

I'll actually give you part of this one, Tom.. but the R"s didn't have enough (and still don't) to override a Presidential veto process.

Owl. i'll disagree with you a little bit on one example you gave though:

Quote:Sewing up Nikes is not our future--or at least I hope not.

Any production job is a good job in the States. Should it be the basis of any economy? Not any single job.. but I'm pretty sure there are some people without jobs that have NO problem if they were to get a job sewing up shoes. (Yes, I know that was your extreme example)

While I agree with the first sentence, the second merely attacks the man instead of his words. Typical.

Typical of what...it's just a fact. Woods is a washed up actor. His best work is long behind him. And I'll say the same thing about DeNiro. And it was more for his debacle with Sean Young than any political beliefs. Trust me...I was a huge fan of him back in the day.
