I'm torn, I mean really torn.... The fact it was Saint Patrick's day last week did not, and should not, make it a day where people who are breaking the law are untouchable.

At the same time, prowling a parade looking to arrest people for a non violent crime, seems a bit ghoulish.

Yeah, I don't really care for Cinco de Mayo celebrations, but ICE just patrolling the streets looking for excuses to arrest someone to determine whether or not they might be illegal just doesn't sit right with me.

If you've got documented proof that someone is illegal, sure. But the way I understand how ICE works, many times they don't even find out someone is illegal until their name comes up for some other reason.

yea, we dont want ICE in our streets watching for criminal activity, because that might lead to them arresting and deporting someone who is found to be illegal.

Yeah, if only ICE operated that way. Allowing them to patrol anything essentially gives them carte blanche to grab someone for littering just to see if they are illegal or not.

Again, documented proof, by all means. But don't sit there pretending you are providing extra security when you really just want a reason to check names on the off chance you run across a couple who aren't here legally.

This is more a shot across the bow of a lawless City and Administration than the individual fence jumpers themselves. If you're not going to turn over the illegals when they DO come into contact with local law enforcement, we'll work to find them ourselves.

Dumb move by the City, brilliant move by the ICE folks.

I have been a sponsor for two different families to become citizens. It takes a while. It takes work. Which is why these people get so pissed when they see illegals bypass the process and get immediately get financial assistance, while they themselves have to continually jump through hoops and prove they will not be a financial hardship on the country.

Yea I know, somebody at work whose wife came to this country had to go through a lot to move here legally. Not sure how long but it was a long process. Can certainly understand they'd be pissed.

Wasn't until fairly recently I knew there was such a thing as sanctuary cities. Doesn't make sense to me either.

It does when you find out that the feds have no funds to support the detention of undocumented immigrants.

It's one thing to not have the money to imprison them. It's another to try to keep others from coming in and deporting them, if that's what they're essentially doing. States' rights, I guess.

I don't know of any city where that was occurring before Trump took office. Do you?

Shouldn't really matter who the President happens to be at the time though, should it?

While I realize that most don't consider the economics when it comes to this issue, I think it's important to understand.
Changes in immigration policy will have economic consequences that people should consider.
I'm in favor of permanent guest worker status, but no citizenship for anyone who came here illegally.
Why? Why would you deny someone citizens because they in essence committed a misdemeanor?

Because I don't believe that they should profit from their illegal behavior.

But don't you believe that the punishment should be equal to the crime? I mean even murderers get to keep their citizenship. Shouldn't there be some recourse for undocumented immigrants who are otherwise willing to be upstanding citizens in every way shape or form?

Sure.

Go home, get your papers and whatever else in order, and apply for entry like everyone else in the world is expected/supposed to do. There are people with family members already here legally that have to wait years to get in. Know a number of them personally, one sister and mother of a friend had to wait nearly 3 years, sitting in Canada where they were not from either.

Why do those that do things the wrong way get to move to the front of the line?
