Sanctuary City Fail - We Must Cancel Cinco de Mayo
Philadelphia is a sanctuary city. Ice has asked for Philly to turn over the illegals for arrest. Philly said no. ICE says "fine, then we will show up at the Cinco de Mayo celebration in order to keep the public safe."
Now the event is cancelled. And now an entire city of citizens do not get to celebrate a holiday because of illegals.
Philadelphia’s “El Carnaval de Puebla,” an annual celebration that draws more than 15,000 people to Philly’s Mexican-American community, is canceled, organizers say. Their fear is that Immigration and Customs Enforcement will show up and cart off parade participants.
ICE admits that it has targeted and arrested individuals in Philadelphia. But, according to Philadelphia ICE director Jennifer Ritchey, who provided NBC News with a written statement, the city was warned of the operation and instructed that they could turn over the undocumented immigrants for arrest. Philly, a “sanctuary city,” refused, so ICE said it stepped in to prevent ”a situation that puts the public at unnecessary risk,” Ritchey added.

Hey, I'm with you. People should be free to celebrate a holiday without getting harrassed by the government.

I'm torn, I mean really torn.... The fact it was Saint Patrick's day last week did not, and should not, make it a day where people who are breaking the law are untouchable.
At the same time, prowling a parade looking to arrest people for a non violent crime, seems a bit ghoulish.

Saint Patrick's day in Ireland is not a bar hopping drunk fest... People here celebrate things to tie themselves back to the lands from which their ancestors came.

It's great to see the government finally have some nuts.
If they are here illegally they should be arrested.

RE: Sanctuary City Fail - We Must Cancel Cinco de Mayo
Just heard a report on the news this morning on a study that was done on the five largest sanctuary cities. The report finds that each of these cities account for 18 percent of the entire manufacturing production of the United States. Their population is younger than the national average and have less people on social services than the national average.
All told, the 5 larges sanctuary cities, rather than being a drag on the economy, actually pull more than their weight for this country.

They also produce more turd nuggets. Both of which have nothing to do with illegal aliens.

Who did this study? I'm guessing it's somebody with an agenda who stacked the heck to get the result that he/she wanted.
And this result doesn't suggest that being a sanctuary city improves your economy. My guess is that they were in pretty much the same place economically before they became sanctuary cities. Would that be a good guess?

You may not be far off. Unfortunately, I caught the interview in the middle and didn't get a chance to find out who conducted the study. Otherwise, I would have looked it up and linked it here.
While I realize that most don't consider the economics when it comes to this issue, I think it's important to understand.
Changes in immigration policy will have economic consequences that people should consider.

I'm in favor of permanent guest worker status, but no citizenship for anyone who came here illegally.

Why? Why would you deny someone citizens because they in essence committed a misdemeanor?

Because they are too stupid and lazy to do things the right way. Thats not the type of person we want assimilating here. They can go back to their homeland and be stupid and lazy.
