WNIT 2017 Run
So we made to the sweet 16 of one Tournament

Radford - Down

UVA - Down

Big name schools and big matchups ahead.

Nova at home Thursday

If we win - likely Indiana or SMU - in the Burg? Fun stuff.

Possible Final 4 matchup would be VPI and Kenny Brooks - returning to JMU.

The longer this goes, the more experience this young team gets for next year.

RE: WNIT 2017 Run
The team is showing some real resiliency right now. I loved the "Saturday Night at the Improv" reference on the other thread. They are showing more and more that they can play with anyone at any time (well, maybe not Connecticut :-) ) and that they can adapt to whatever defense is thrown at them. Thursday night will be a critical game - get your tickets now and plan to DVR Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. It should be a heap of fun and these ladies have worked so hard for this and deserve all our support.

And we get another evening with the Pep Band!! Loved Chad's opening comment welcoming everyone to THE university in Virginia. The UVA fans who for whatever reason insisted in sitting behind the JMU bench were not so amused. I am not sure if it was all of us yelling or the proximity to the Pep Band, but they wandered over to the section behind the UVA bench at halftime.

What does it take to host games in the WNIT? I'm just surprised to see so many P5 schools go on the road for some of their games.

It takes a fan base & administration that supports their women's programs as much as their men's. JMU has long put JMU WBB in a position to be successful at home whenever possible. Like you, I am surprised that there isn't more home support for many of these P5 programs.

Of the 8 games set in the Round of 16, 7 are at P5 teams and the lone one not is JMU hosting Nova.

I believe that they started tearing down the Pavilion at Villanova for their major renovation project, so Nova won't be hosting any games in the WNIT. We'll never know but I wonder what would have happened if Virginia was playing Villanova.

Wonder if we would host Indiana. I'm thinking that might be the one school we travel to.

If any of this question is specific to Villanova, renovations have already begun on the Pavillion.

In general though, I agree. I also think, on a relative basis, there is more fan support within mid-majors for the NIT (womens and mens) than there is at major conference schools. A school like JMU can finish 2nd or 3rd in the CAA and still have something to prove in the NIT. Whereas in a major conference, the NIT invitees are likely already playing 5th, 6th (or worse) fiddle. I think Tech finished 11th in the ACC?

Yep. You've got it.

Have you seen the plans for the project JB?

Im actually surprised at how little is actually being done. Mainly creation of amenities for donors, and making the lower bowl more permanent (currently movable, like the lower bowl at the Convo).

I absolutely LOVED the "81 south, 64 east" chant when it became clear that JMU was going to win. We were laughing so hard it was almost impossible to chant along with it!

Also, the UVA pep band is BORING.03-yawn

When I went through her feed, it looked like only one was left. She definitely seems like the type of person who would complain about Target's Obsessive Christmas Disorder/OCD joke.

Agree, this will be interesting if it comes to be. Took a look back at their fan support/attendance at home games. We are about on par with each other. Who will step up to the plate???

WNIT 2017 Run
i was planning on going to the game and Tivo'ing the WVU-Gonzaga game, but i already know how that story ends:

guy sitting behind me, checking phone: "Whoa, WVU is (beating/losing to) Gonzaga! The score is 72-63 with 30 seconds left! there's really no reason for anyone who taped the game to watch it now! listen to how loud my voice is!"

And: per http://finneranpavilion.com/faqs

"Students will be seated along both baselines at the Finneran Pavilion, placing them closer to the court. We believe this will enhance the student fan experience and provide an even greater home court advantage for our men’s and women’s basketball teams.

I remember hearing the 81 South, 64 East chant when JMU beat VCU up your way back in the 90s. Definitely something I miss about college sports with my two schools; similar chants nowadays would be Go to Priceline and try to get a cheap ticket with only one layover, then get an Uber to the airport and hope the driver didn't hotbox his Kia Rio. Compared to that, Ice Cream and Cake is easy.

From the looks of the plans, it appears that Villanova is just putting really expensive lipstick on a pig. If your new arena ever gets built it will be a lot nicer that what Villanova will have.
