RE: Recommend a book
Grizzard refused to use computers, writing every column or book on a regular typewriter. ("When I write, I like to hear some noise", he said.)[citation needed]
He also suffered from a congenital heart defect - a valve problem. In his own words, "There are three little leaflets that control the flow of blood to the heart. I was born with only two of those leaflets. It was just after the Great War, so there may have been a shortage. Either that or my daddy didn't get a good toe-hold." His near-death after his third valve-replacement surgery in 1993 brought in over 50,000 letters from well-wishers. He later attributed his miraculous recovery to the prayers of his fans.
Some time after marrying for the fourth time, Grizzard died of complications of his fourth heart-valve surgery. Grizzard suffered from brain damage, according to one report,[citation needed] from lack of oxygen to his brain. Had he survived, he would have been quite impaired. In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated, and some of his ashes were scattered at the 50-yard line of the Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia. The typewriter he used to author columns about the Atlanta Braves 1991 "worst to first" season is on display in the library of the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

RE: Recommend a book
If anyone wants a real answer on the latest book I'm reading, it's Illusion Einer Jugend" by Ralf Roland Ringler. A history of the Hitler Youth in Austria, although I'm only interested in the 1945 parts. I'm translating it.

40 Lashes, Less One - Elmore Leonard.
May have been his last semi-western, but it's good.

Currently - "Titanic Conspiracy" by Robin Gardiner. Entertaining and makes you go "Hmmmmmmmm"
Up next - "Consciousness Beyond Life" by Dr. Pim Van Lommel then "7 lessons from Heaven" by Dr. Mary Neal. Both are supposed to be excellent.

Hey Claw, I'm sorry dude, you just took a 25mm round to the chest. You were wearing body armor, though, so you might live through it. Maybe.

Yep. Just finished the Warded Man series, the 5th and final book was released recently.
Impatiently waiting on Nov. 14th for Oathbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, a planned 10 book series.

Awesome! Sanderson is kind of a hero to me because he quit Del Rey over a contract dispute. Authors like him are helping all authors negotiate better deals, or even go self-pub.
I'm not familiar with the Warded Man series but I'll definitely look into it.
If you're not busy on the 16th at 6 pm I'm signing my first fantasy book at novel, what used to be The Booksellers at Laurelwood. I'd love to meet you.
Do you attend conventions? Or write yourself?

No I do not attend conventions (but I think about it often) nor write.
I became a Sanderson fan when he took over the Wheel of Time. When he finished the last 3 books, he paled in comparison to Jordan, but he did an admirable job. Robert Jordan is, hands down, the best writer I have ever read. If you have not read the Wheel of Time, I consider it a must read for any writer. The foreshadowing and other techniques he used was ground-breaking at that time. I would put his 4th book of that series "The Shadow Rising" up against any book ever written.
Sanderson has improved greatly since that time, but still hasn't reached the level of Jordan. I absolutely love Sanderson's imagination. It is truly remarkable how many different worlds he has created and the range of believable magic systems he has implemented in his worlds.
We have discussed Jordan before and once again I highly recommend downloading the first few sample chapters that I am pretty sure are offered on Kindle. When you read the prologue you will know right away if it is something that interests you.
I will mark the 16th on my calendar and make plans to be there and meet you.

Awesome, thanks! I was lucky enough to meet Jordan when he came here and got him to sign all of my Wheel of Time hardbacks. He also signed my Conan paperback, which surprised him no end. He didn't see many of those. VERY nice guy. VERY good writer, as you've said. Pretty much redefined the epic fantasy genre.

I met Lewis. His agent called me to see if perhaps we could synidicate him as a recorded comedy feature to radio stations. So, we agreed to meet in Lakeland, FL because he had a speaking engagement at the local civic center. I really did not know much about Lewis other than his book writing since I had read a few. So, before the show we all go back stage and we have a chance to talk. Lewis liked his Jack Daniels (at least I think that was what he was drinking) and there was also plenty of food. I am not sure if he was married at the time. His agent had mentioned that they had been to another engagement the night before. They had met a couple of women and taken them to their hotel room. Apparently the women slipped them mickies and knocked them out and stole the agents Rolex. I am guessing these guys partied a lot and lived a little on the wild side. I got to sit in the audience and listen to Lewis speak. It was a one man show with him just talking for about an hour and a half. The crowd loved him. As the crowd left, he had his books and tapes for sale in the lobby and they sold quite a bit of those after the show. We talked again after his show and said we would get together for futher discussions. Frankly, we never figured out how to syndicate him and even if we did, he would have been very regional (southern states only) and in the radio syndication business, the key to being a success is being in the Top 20 markets...New York, LA, Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, etc. We just never thought that we could sell him there, so passed. But, it was an interesting day in my life.
