Which is why it was even more stupid to make the comment.

THIS!

Remember when target initially got hurt and everyone pointed out Walmart was having a bad week as well... But Target never bottomed out they turned a slight market driven downturn into a full on self inflicted clubbing.

Even after that the stock is 3 times what it was a few years ago.

I think Starbucks is vulnerable though. If the economy went on a downturn, suddenly expensive coffee might not be as much of a necessity.

It doesn't protect you from the economic consequences of your actions. I'd love to see some boycotts of Hollywood actress's/actors movies. That might slow down the steady high pressure stream of hate from Hollywood. When those box office receipts fall by 50%, those actors wont be quite as in demand.

There are certain things in which boycotting won't work:

Sure, a bunch of people can boycott Hollywood, but the people willing to do that are probably the people who don't attend many movies anyway. I attend 3 movies or so a year. I could threaten to boycott for some reason, but it's not going to do anything.

Hollywood is a multi billion dollar enterprise that is worldwide. There's simply not enough people in this country to really hurt them. All they have to do is throw out another Star Wars film and it's all good.

It's sort of like threatening to boycott the NFL over players not standing for the anthem. For every person willing to drop their tickets, there's a guy on a waiting list behind them ready to take their spot.
