If it's closer to 3/4ths of a majority, then the Florida schools and East Carolina aren't going to be in favor of Wichita State unless they agree to start football.

What would a 13th team, starting from the ground up add? Why would the Florida schools or ECU object to a bball only team that could bring money in the form of NCAA credits to the league?

- UConn is against adding yet another team that it's fans don't know and won't buy tickets to see play

??

Neither. If billybobby is talking about me, then he's got it all wrong. I want no part of Wichita St because they're another mouth to feed off of the pittance we get currently. They add zero dollars to a future TV contract, and the tourney credits constantly bandied about? Well I think this years run proves my point quite nicely, thank you.

I can understand a certain amount of uncertainty about adding WSU and then the fall off to their historic level if Marshall leaves. But, if he sticks around it's reasonable to believe that in a better conference they would get better seeds and not have to play a #2 in the round of 32.

Agreed ... but now you're causing the same football vs basketball struggle that sunk the original Big East.

Thinking the big football programs in AAC don't want more than one non-G5 established football school invited.

Not really. The Big East had an 8 basketball/8 football voting stalemate. The AAC would have a 12-football/3-basketball voting balance. That's a whole different world than the Big East.

One interesting aspect of WSU to the AAC is that if the conference thinks UConn is perpetually going to have one eye on the Big East for the entirety of the time they're in the conference, having WSU in-house with the ability to restart football gives the conference a little more flexibility/stronger negotiating stance if it comes time to negotiate the split. The conference wouldn't have to scramble for a new member, WSU's brand would be there to offset the loss of UConn's brand, and you could do some creative things with the exit (i.e. UConn "pays" its exit fee by remaining as a football-only member for a set number of years at reduced or no conference payout while WSU gets their football share and builds their team up to the point that it's ready to join the conference for football in order to maintain scheduling stability).

Navy is only an affiliate member, not a full member like WSU, Dayton, and VCU would be.

And then UConn leaves.

So that's 10/3.

If Wichita State leaves, then they are forced to leave behind all of their tournament credits for the past several years. Can they afford to do that? Or would they eat those earnings in hopes of getting more national schedule and respect playing in the American?

So that's 10/3.

If UConn goes they'll either be replaced with a new full member or at least one of those schools starts up football, so you're looking at either 11/3 or 11/2.

EDIT: To be clear, I think the AAC stops at WSU if they're adding non-football members, so this situation is very unlikely.

And MVC board says they need to give 24 months notice to leave and there will be no exit fee.

In 2013, they earned 6 credits for the MVC.
2014, 2 credits
2015, 3 credits
2016, 3 credits
2017, 2 credits

The 2013 run will expire in 2019-20.

Look at all that money WSU will be making the AAC in the future! 04-jawdrop03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

All reports are that WSU is pretty gung-ho on joining a multi-bid conference in the next couple years, whether it's the American, the A-10, or some other conference (hell, Gonzaga and St Mary's probably have the clout to force the WCC to take them if push comes to shove). My guess is that Wichita has already written off those credits.
