The MAC is the ticket to the dance; good players will get you there. Go get them.

Do we not pay them enough?

I've read that has something to do with it.

We can get back to 2015 shape and compete for sure! But in the last 3 seasons as an average? We rank at about a 7-5 to 8-4 AAC squad. The bottom of that league is much better than the MAC. I don't even want to talk about that league in basketball. For someone who paid very close attention to the G5 last season, rest be assured that beating UCF in 2002 or whenever means nothing now.

With that being said, the MAC in football may be on an upturn this season. BG and Miami are on upswings, with a consistent Toledo, WMU, and Ohio still near the top. WMU was still the best overall G5 team last season. I wouldn't bolt just yet. It's not always the toughest league who is granted that Access Bowl Spot. We saw that in 2016... That's where the money is. Winning bowl games are essential in gaining respect though. It sucks being dogs in 5 of 6 games.

so you condone Toledo playing in front of less than 5,000 people in the stands on the road?????

What does that have to do with anything ???

I've thought about this for awhile, and have relegated myself to the fact that Toledo is not going anywhere. Hopefully the MAC can, and will, get better...

The MAC sucks. It's been dragging us down for quite some time now. Unfortunately, I don't see a way out at the current time. It'll be same old, same old until we either join FCS or are no longer competitive in FBS.

If we were in the AAC, we would be recruiting at the AAC level. Dare I mention the young man who ditched us last minute to go play for Cincinnati in the AAC? I'd bet ya if Toledo were in the AAC right now, he would have stayed a Rocket.

RE: Renewed Rant
I believe our chances at the AAC have come and gone back in the ole Big East days when the Glass Bowl was rocking with 31k+ every week.

Chances are now slim.

My thoughts exactly. I believed that back in 2000/2001 the Rocket's football product both on the field and in the stands was good enough to elevate us up from the MAC---BUT the last appearance of the UT men's BB at the lucrative NCAA tourney was at that time a very long 20 years past and IMHO that killed our chances. Both CUSA and the Big East were driven by men's basketball at that time which explains Cincinnati's success. At that time the Bearcats' football program was inferior to UT both on the field and in the stands but their MBB was in the NCAA Tourney almost EVERY YEAR under Bob Huggins Now that same NCAA tourney is much, much more lucrative than it was in 2000 and it is now NOT a "mere" 20 years, BUT rather 37 long, long years since the men's program has made an appearance -----probably half the fans on this board were not even alive the last time Toledo's men were there.

Still, actively expressing hope for (or even demanding) a better conference is never far removed from this board-----and the AAC is the only one out there that makes ANY sense at all since even the most delusional fans do not really believe UT is ready for the P5. I guess hope truly does spring eternal but as our old "friends" from Marshall used to say "Hope in one hand and crap in the other and see which hand fills up first".

At present, short of dropping back to FCS, and barring a completely unforeseen simultaneous breakup of C-USA, the Sun Belt and the MAC and a realignment of survivors, the ONLY way Toledo can leave the MAC is to go independent in football and hope they can get the rest of their programs into the Horizon Conference or some similar arrangement. Try that and the board will really have something to complain about.

I'll take the kid with the Ole Miss and Bama offers thank you very much. Still. There's no denying that the AAC is a stronger league. All agree??? Getting an offer from that league would be nice. But it wont happen. In the mean time I have hope for a league who's had the best G5 team 2 of the last 5 seasons, and a great Toledo team in 2015 who knocked off ISU, ranked Arkansas and ranked Temple. We will have the biggest stud QB the G5 has seen since Derek Carr. The MAC can be great with a fogurehead on top making noise. Its gone from Big Ben to Dan Lefevour to Jordan Lynch to Corey Davis to very possibly Logan Woodside. I love our school, and by marriage I love the MAC too. I never want to act like some of those AAC P6 fans do. Make the MAC great again, or cheer for one of those other 3 schools who get media coverage here.
