ODU is losing Jordan Baker and Denzell Taylor. Both excellent defenders but not so much on the offensive end. We are returning our top four scorers and have two recruits who presumably can shoot the rock. We'll be around the top 4 or 5.

I'd throw Rice in there too. If we keep winning, we could end up with 24-27 wins this year. If we return Evans and Koulechov (two 1st team all-conference guys), we might be returning 80-plus points a game and could be a popular preseason pick to win the league.

anyone remember the fighting Tony Mitchell's the team that could just line up on the court and other SBC schools would just start to shake? Top 10 player and future lottery pick Tony Mitchell, top 100, 4 star player, Roger Franklin, top 70 player and #7 player in Texas, Jordan Williams and a few high 3star recruits.

The only problem Johnny Jones was the bench coach and then Tony Benford

COACHING MATTERS....even when you have highly rated recruits

You fail to mention that Tony Mitchell NEVER lived up to the hype. He wasn't that good. He ended up drafted in the 2nd round, based purely off of his high school reputation. He lasted less than a year in the NBA, and has played in the Phillipines most of his career. He wasn't even good enough to make it in Europe. Instead he's battling it out with Japheth Aguilar in the Philippines. Certainly, Johnny Jones and Tony Benford are subpar coaches. But Tony Mitchell was VASTLY overrated as a player coming out of high school.

Why would I point out "Tony Mitchell NEVER lived up to the hype"? Can you point me to where these recruits for Western played one game in college?

So basically you agree....

right now Western is going on hype and a coach that hasn't proved he can coach a team pasted the 2nd game of the NCAA Tourney?

Do you think Tony Mitchell was the first or even the last to be "VASTLY overrated as a player"? Point is the game isn't player or won based off of HS rankings.

Because the entire basis of your post is that COACHING MATTERS. You were asserting that North Texas didn't win because of coaching. I am merely throwing a wrinkle that it is entirely possible they did not win because a highly rated player did not live up to the billing. The facts are Johnny Jones took UNT to the tournament with a very good team the year before Mitchell. He also got that same UNT team back to the Sun Belt finals after a disappointing year with Mitchell. I think that it is possible UNT's problem was that Tony Mitchell simply wasn't as good as advertised and not the coaching.

I am fully aware WKU has a talented class that could be overrated. And if that does happen, then your COACHING MATTERS mantra would still be irrelevant. However, if those players go on to achieve great accolades and we still aren't winning at a high clip then you can beat your chest and say "I told you so".

Personally, I'm not the kind of person to trash my own program or coach. You can go on pretending your passive-agressive jabs at Stansbury aren't meant to slam him, but we all know you are throwing out the bait so you can prove us all wrong. Or, in the case where he wins big, can come back and say "show me one instance where I said I wanted him to fail". I'm over your little games. It gets old after a while.

The only reason it is getting old to you...

I never say what you think you read. I'm not basing COACHING MATTERS...

on one season or two

Coach Stansbury had many top ranked players at Miss St and never went past the 2nd game of the tourney. Johnny Jones got fired because of that same reason.

COACH MATTERS....

maybe not so much if you are competing in a conference lacking overall talent top to bottom. Then talent can over come coaching..to a point. But at Western...

I thought we don't settle for conference tourney championships? Or losing 1st round of the NCAA Tourney?

Just because I'm not on here beating my chest about a recruiting class doesn't mean I ever want a Western coach to fail. Some of you same Western fans .. couldn't stand Marshall fans pointing out their bigtime players in football and how that meant they were going to beat everyone.

Well some of you Western fans...became those same fans you ***** about.

Ask Marshall fans which mattered the most. Highly ranked players or coaching. I bet 95% will say....

COACHING MATTERS!

At least those Marshall fans did their bragging after actually winning the conference and being ranked. Western fans are doing it after losing in the first round of the conference tourney to a team that hadn't won away from home all season...

COACHING MATTERS

If pointing out bad coaching makes me less of a fan...so be it. I will still be one of the few sitting in the stands if they lose. I will still be one of the very very very few Western fan sitting in the stands on road game as long as the give effort...win or lose. No matter who's coaching or who's on the court.

HH has a search button and so does this board. I will wait for you to show me where I put our coach down. Other than to point our so far in 15 years he hasn't been that great of a coach...compared to the talent he recruits. Not once will you find a Told you so post by me. Not my style. If it comes up in a debate type back and forth I will defend my point but I never post with a told you so type post.

Hope he proves me wrong. But I wont beat my chest about paper talent and tell other teams we roll out the ball and win

Just so we know what you and the other Western fan took offense to below is that post...

Incoming:

Lamonte Bearden 6'3" Jr Point Guard (Buffalo transfer. Former 4*)
Moustapha Diagne 6'9" So Center (Former 4* Syracuse commit, had to go Juco for grades)
Robinson Idehen 6'9" Fr Forward (3-star, had to sit out for academic reasons and enroll in community college this past year)
Taveion Hollingsworth 6'3 Fr Guard (3-star and Kentucky Mr Basketball)
Josh Anderson 6'4" Fr Guard (4-star ranked #43 nationally)
Mitchell Robinson 7'0" Fr Center (5-star and #6 nationally)

Plus whomever we sign in the spring signing period. I expect a Juco guard, 1 more freshman, and a grad transfer. There should be some excellent basketball in CUSA next season. If MTSU can keep it up and WKU gets their crap together again. Then we could have multiple bids from CUSA next season.

To do that its clear either one of us has to go 31-3 with 3 or 4 top 50 wins to get an at large and lose in finals to the other team to get 2 bids......

Way too early though for what's coming back thread, we need to at least wait until the dust clears on grad transfers as I am sure some of us will lose guys to power teams...Also we need to see what pieces we all add in the Spring....At this time last season we were close to having zero guards and completely added our team together not until end of May and even later when Pancake joined...Also the coaching carousel has not stopped yet..

In spring we need to add 2 or 3 shooters and a grad transfer who can knock down threes...

YG....no one has said WKU is dominating the conference, where have you read that on here?....Most are excited to have a 15th ranked recruiting class coming in, not in CUSA but the nation...What was North Texas recruiting class ranked nationally? I seriously doubt 15th.....

Cannot compare football to basketball....Talent matters a lot more when you have 5 players on the court vs. 11 on the field....Serious talent and a once in a decade player for us can make a huge difference in a league like this in basketball....Football does not show as much individual talent....I am not saying we will just roll over the conference, but unreal talent on paper can translate to a lot of wins in this conference....Your rants about Stans never mention he was coaching in the SEC when the SEC was a legit basketball conference, he also could have had a lot more talent at MISS. ST if not for the NBA rule back then where high school guys went straight to the league....WKU fans are just sick of you taking shots at Stans while you sat here last 4 years sucking Harper's ass and never saying a negative word about the guy, most can see your posts on know what your agenda is...

If ODU is not top 3 in the conference with four games to go, I would consider that a massive disappointment

Bottom line is that it looks like C-USA hoops will be much improved next season. Let's shoot for two maybe three teams in the tournament.

That's fine any dandy but if the last 3 or 4 years are any indications we have to have a team to make an at large only lose 2 or 3 games unless said team has like 5 top 50 wins, even then we will be sweating with 6 or so losses..

We will have a solid BB team again as usual - at least until tournament time. Hopefully our schedule is better and we should have the best PG in the league

Again a fool trying to read something that was not there...

Come on you and I both know what you and others say on other boards. Roll out the balls is all coach Stansbury needs to do. As for Harper I question coaching moves many times. I will give you the same option I gave the other two Western fans....

show me were I hammered coach Stansbury? You can't. The only thing I ever said was he was not a good bench coach...nothing else. To go along with that I questioned maybe twice but no more than three times why he would not sit a player who was not giving any effort on defense.

If that's hammering...then I did it.

Doesn't matter if it's football or basketball no one is comparing the sports. I honestly don't know how you would come up with that. It's the bragging part about recruiting and how that means domination.

Don't care what UNT's class was ranked. How is that important? They had a top 25 player and a couple top 100 which are 4 star players and a few high rated 3 stars. The UNT fans acted just like a few of you Western fans...

Roll out the ball and win. Coaching Matters.

Now go find me those post with me hammering coach Stansbury? You can't and we both know it. But one thing is for sure....

Harper is still on your mind and even if he hasn't coached at Western in a year. You still find ways to bring up his name all negative. Not tell me how many good coaching moves did you see in a Western game this past season? Any? So if I'm wrong about Coach Stansbury's bench coaching...

point out to me what he's done to make you think he's a good coach? Start with this past season and go from there. I base my opinion off fact. You?
