RE: ACC is being exposed
Honestly, with as many upsets in the ACC season this year, could every school have really been That Good ? I believe that the 1 and done or even 2 and done in the bigger conferences is masking the watering down of the talent pool levels. Schools that keep players 3-4 years are now at an advantage when having Their players know and retain a system vs ones that reload every year with less experenced players. Also watching a lot of games it seems many are turned on a whole lot of bad or missed calls across the board. Many reffs are aging and you don't really see many younger ones getting in these days. Not sure if that could be an issue but it could be a reason for so many bad calls.

(03-19-2017 07:00 AM)Dr. Isaly von Yinzer Wrote:  There is no other way to say it, the ACC is being exposed in this year's NCAA tournament. All of the hype the league has gotten this season is been discredited. Not only are our teams losing, they are getting destroyed and along with it so is my bracket.

My bracket as well!

I wouldn't read too much into this year's disappointing results, though, just as I wouldn't read too much into last year's tremendous run.

Last year for instance, the only game in which an ACC team defeated a lower seeded opponent from another conference was Syracuse as a 10 seed defeating Dayton as a 7 seed in the first round. Every other win, the ACC school was the lower seeded school. The ACC benefited from upsets by other schools to ease their road. Syracuse played a 15 and an 11 seed before meeting UVA in the Regional Final. Notre Dame was a 6 seed and defeated an 11, 14 and 7 on the way to the Regional Final. The conference basically held serve every time (except UVA v. SU).

This year the breaks have gone the other way. For instance, Xavier and Michigan may have been higher seeds, but they have both been playing better than the regular season performances that earned them those seeds.

In general, this is why the NCAA distributes the Basketball Fund based upon six years worth of data, not just one. Things tend to even themselves out.

Most people don't have thick enough skin to become refs these days.

ACC schools have developed swollen heads and think all they have do is show up and win, because they play in the ACC! Well, that bubble has been busted! Also, many of our old head coaches are past their prime and need to retire! 07-coffee3

The ACC is a football conference now.

DOUBLE STANDARD

No it doesn't, because the other SEC teams usually do well too. E.g., the year before last, when Bama won the title over Clemson, the SEC won 8 or so other bowl games, like the ACC did this year.

In situations like that, the national champ isn't the only success story in the conference.

ACC football season - Clemson wins title, other ACC teams win bowl games = huge success for ACC.

ACC basketball season - UNC wins title, other ACC teams flop out of tournament = glory for UNCS, ACC flopped.

Last year, before the tournament, ACC is the third best conference and we sent four teams to Sweet 16. This year, before the tournament, ACC is the best conference according to most matrices, and we sent only one team to Sweet 16. IMO Duke, Notre Dame and Louisville should have won their second game.

No doubt, unfortunately that didn't happen. It is what it is.

Except last year, we had 6 in the sweet sixteen. UNC, Duke, ND, UVA, Cuse and Miami. And we had 4 in the elite 8 all on the same side of the bracket which guaranteed 2 in the final 4 and 1 in the finals. UNC, ND, UVA and Cuse.

Last year we sent six - UNC, Duke, Virginia, Notre Dame, Miami and Syracuse.

As I said previously, you can't just look at one year. Things average out, which is why the NCAA uses six years of results in distributing the Basketball Fund.

Maybe GT should go back to the SEC after all. We've had a great time beating them in hoops and football over the last year. I'm sad there are no more SEC teams to beat in the NIT.

I'd be interest in knowing how the ACC did vs the initial composition of the tourney (9/68 teams) in terms of the total games in the tourney.

Last year - 25. It was an all time record by a conference.

Not sure if this is what you are getting at, but here are the W-L records so far by the multibid leagues:

SEC 11–4
P12 10–3
B12 9–6
ACC 9–8
B1G 8–7
BE 6–7
WCC 5–1
AAC 1–2
A10 1–3

They did it by playing P6 teams as well. The PAC also performed well but they played fewer P6 teams.
