Why would the ACC even expand at this point if Notre Dame doesn't bring its football in?

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner. If ever ND joins, look for the ACC to offer Navy. Again, my preference would be Houston or Cincinnati. ACC does not want UCONN, it will need to be strong football and decent basketball. Not the other way around. :04-chairshot

Rumor-UConn and Cincy to ACC in 2018?

Hell, the thread didn't even go well on the bone-yard. Linking to another messageboard that somebody talked to an "insider" doesn't make it a rumor, it usually just makes people who believe posts like that look stupid.

Good point. Stuff like this never pans out for obvious reasons. Forget about the schools in question, they could be anybody for purposes of this illustration.

The notion that the senior leadership of a conference would be discussing highly sensitive matters with people who are then openly discussing such matters with anyone and everyone in the stands at a game is just idiotic, IMO.

The characterization of these folks as "insiders" and "prominent boosters" when, if true, such people would hardly be sitting in the cheap seats with all the hoi polloi is too funny!

IMO, the folks who start these folks are either trolling or are just incredibly naive - perhaps both.

You seem happy about that. Why?

How do you get that I am happy about this?

Well I sure as heck don't see you outraged at nzmorange's take. That's how.

Not to mention you're a Louisville fan, which means you're for UCONN's continued downward spiral into irrelevance.

Why would anyone be outraged by his take -- which is simple, and observatory in nature??

If that outraged you, you may have some issues to dig into.

Where in my post did I say I was outraged? Hang on a mo while I look to see if I did.......nope nothing there.

I couldn't help but notice you didn't dispute my second point. I'd be lying if I said I was shocked by that.

Also, to the clown(s) who suggested Navy will be getting #16 in the very unlikely event ND decides to forsake their (faux) independence...the Cleveland Browns have a better chance of winning Super Bowl 51 than Navy getting an ACC invite.

So same chance as UConn.

Not going to happen for several reasons. None of which have anything to do with the schools mentioned.

The ACCN has ample content. The B1G filled their network with only 11 schools.

The ACC got a black eye by leaking expansion discussions. They won't do that again. Virginia seems like a highly unlikely candidate to leak information to boosters.

Football scheduling would be a nightmare.

The list goes on...

Add me to the clown list. I don't think Navy will be #16 but I don't think they are a bad choice. National reputation. Good academics. Located in the MD/DC area. Relationship with Notre Dame. Military academy. Army/Navy game(s).

I don't think they are on the top of the list but I believe they are on the list.

If we wanted them they would be the choice. UConn guy won't except that. I understand why because they know UConn will not be the choice if we have a pick.

UConn's chances come down to:

1. Does Tobacco Road want them? (Possibily, improves basketball)
2. Would the old Big East block want them in and is it enough to overcome the BC/Football based block?
3. Does ESPN think they add value?

I don't think anyone seriously believes this. If things were far enough along that random Virginia boosters were catching word the media would be all over it.

You mean like that time in 2012 when everyone in the media had UCONN getting an invite to the ACC instead of Louisville?

I didn't say they were a bad choice. I just chuckle when everyone has Navy etched in stone as ND's CR partner. I'm sure everyone remembers when UCONN was etched in stone for an invite that ultimately went to Louisville in 2012.

I guess the basic question would be who is going to pony up the additional $25M/year or so for each new school to make something like this financially viable, given the contraction which appears to be occurring in the industry today?

The ACC appears to be set for the next 20 years. Hard to imagine there would be any adjustments literally a year into the new deal.

Given the new realities in the marketplace, I just don't see any conference going beyond 14 members.

I'm glad you're so dialed in to what I will and won't "accept". You're just a freaking svengali over there. Navy has the same chance at the ACC as the Browns do at SB 51. You, Mr. ND fan, won't acc, err...except that.

They thought we added value in 2011. So I'm not sure anything about #3 has changed.

The AAC will rise in stature in only a few more years so Uconn can stay in the aac and be just fine...
